I have had probably around 12-15 fasting tests or so over the last 4-5 years. Results usually range from 90s to the one hundred and teens.
I once had an autonomic function test done at Mayo at Florida and it was for the most part normal. However, I clearly have some autonomic neuropathy with these "flares" in that I have bladder issues, dry eyes, and sometimes some delayed gastric emptying. Basically, I have small fiber neuropathy with autonomic involvement and all of this has historically presented itsself in what I describe as flares. I just wish I could get these flares to lessen in their frequency and duration. |

Gabapentin...up to 1800 mg a day, but it doesn't seem to be working.
Had a period between April and mid-June where I wasn't taking it and I wasn't having pain issues. I thought my small fiber neuropathy was going away, i.e., the nerves were regenerating. Then, in July, BAM! So I started back on the gabapentin again. |

Is there a family history of other congenital or hereditary disorders. Siblings, parents, etc. with things like Raynaud's, Arthritis, Club Feet, Spina Bifida, etc.?

My sister and mother have raynaud's. There is some family history of arthritis. But that's about it. No neuropathy issues that I know of.

What drugs have you tried other than Gabapentin? Have you tried therapy such as PT, OT, massage, acupuncture? Are your feet overly sensitive to touch? Have you tried different shoes, socks? Does exercise work?

Gabapentin is the only pain drug that I have tried. I've not done any therapies, acupunture or massages, although I sometimes rub my feet when they are burning and it seems to help temporarily sometimes. Historically, feet have not been overly sensitive to touch...they just burn primarily. As far as exercising goes, sometimes taking a walk seems to help them, but it's not a given. I've theorized that maybe the increased circulation from the walk might help, but I don't know.

I have noticed light activities seem to help my feet. For instance working in the yard: stacking wood, cutting grass, tending to the garden, etc. Oddly bike riding seems to cause problems for me. If activity works for you, I would keep it up, since it has many other benefits.
There are a number of things you should consider trying or ask about: acupuncture, massages, PT, lidocaine patch 5% (I am trying that now), electronic muscle stimulator (try it and then buy one for yourself. My wife has one and it doesn't seem to help me.). For severe pain you can try a TENS unit. Also, you can step your Gabapentin up to 3000mg. For folks who max out their Gabapentin to that level they pair it with an anti-depressant to enhance its effects. But I see no reason why you cannot ask for that before stepping up your dose. There is also a time released once per day form of Gapantin now called Gralise. It might work better for you. |
