So, I have a numb spot on the back of my ankle, about the size of a half dollar. Doctor did the nerve test, said..yep, its numb, haha.
Anyway... You know how we all, or at least me, continue to try new things to help us. And I am always just "checking" my numb spot, just to see if feeling is returning, getting worse, better, et. Crazy part is...there are times I swear it is getting better, less numb, smaller in diameter. Then later when I check it, it feels the same. Today is one of those days, it seems smaller and like I have "some" feeling as compared to none. It is definately less sensitive on the surrounding areas. (use to be the perameter around the dead tissue was VERY sensitive, even to air blowing on it) Am I going crazy?? Is it possable to feel like it is better one day and then not another day?? Does nerve feeling "come and go"??? Or is it in my head??? |

Hi stacey, I'm new to all this as I was only diagnosed in June. Just above my toes on the to of both my feet is numb. My right foot never changes, but some days my left foot feels less numb. I sometimes think I'm going mad lol. Its such a bizarre feeling. |

It is sad, cuz I use to think it meant it was getting better when it had more feeling in it than the day before.
I am always looking for signs that it's getting better but I guess I can not go by that. But maybe it is getting better and one day I will have all feeing back. |

Nope - not crazy.
I am experiencing the same thing, only with the left edge of my left foot, small toe of my left foot and some generalized numbness of the foot. It waxes and wanes between not having anything (or barely anything) to the original numb feeling. If it is getting better (and it seems like it might be), I'd say it is a glacial pace. |

Stacy -- my PN fluctuates in intensity too. Just like you, I tend to "check" a lot and hope that things are getting better...but in my case the general trend is toward more numbness and loss of motor impulse.
That is not at all to say degeneration is inevitable! You may be healing. But I suspect that because nerves grow so slowly some peoples' symptoms may change on a time scale of months rather than days. Dunno, though. Your mileage may vary... ![]() |
