I need your help.... in a couple of weeks I am going back to a new neuro.
I was in her office just a week ago and after I tolt het my story she ordered a couple of blood test I am not sure which once but i think she re-testing everything her collegue who is a professor and was my first neuro. She also ordered a MRI to scan of my back. She also tested my reflexes...both legs high reflexes, righ higher then left Arms almost no reflex I dont know if that is good or bad,I am not sure if the arms should give a high reflex?or it was normal I dont know The proffesor I visted 1.5 years ago had his doubts that I could have small fiber neuropathy from the dapsone I used to take. So when visiting this new neuro I told her that I felt my toes getting numb very fast this all happend for my feeling in about 2 mouths or so. I still have feeling in them but its allot less. There is a difference between my left and right side. Left foot and hand are worser off then right. My acapuncturist has said a couple of times that he thought it could be of a compression neuropathie without saying that it came from my back or that it looked like a tarsaaltunnel syndrome. For me this means only two things ...I have nerve that is compressed in my back(but i never had any back pain) or lyme because its so asymmetrical but I have never been tested positive...never. Interresting pionts to mention is I used to have symptomes like ants walking over my lower legs...this is almost gone except for my foot soles. Secondly almost no tingeling in my feet anymore but I cant make out if this is a good sign or not my feet still feel terrible with numbnes extending from my toes into my fore feet. Hands have improved the last year going form pain in my fingers to pain in the top of my fingers to no pain.Just a little bit of stiffnes ...it liks like CTS but it is not because nothing shows up at my EMG this make sence if you have a small fiber neuropathy. The last couple i had some night sweats however I feel ok dont feel sick but i am sure these night sweats have something to do with what I am experiencing lately. To go back to the test my last neuro did All the test where ok except for something with my kidneys So what should I ask this new neuro I am a little bit to the end of my rope with this hole thing So if I get my results and nothing shows up agian what should I ask her to investigate? |

I know it sucks to ask a question and get no reply, and Im sorry. For me, I only post if I feel I have something worth contributing. I am afraid your case is beyond my scope.
I hope you find the answers you are looking for. |

If the results are negative then maybe you could inquire about a skin biopsy to rule out or confirm SFN.

I have numbness in my feet and lower legs, beginning about 7 years ago. THe numbness has increased with time. It started with the big toe and now all toes and the ball of the feet. Both feet. I have seen a neuro several times and all he said is that I have neuropathy after an elecrtical test on my legs.
His only advice is that I should use a heel pad , about 1/4 inch thick. I have that and it provides marginal relief. He always asks me if I would like some medication to relieve the discomfort. I said no. The pain is minimal most of the times, but the discomfort is always there. My feet feel as though there is a rubberband around the bottome of my toes. They usually fell as they are cold, but in feeling them, they are not cold. I have had blood tests and they came in OK. I do not know the specific cause, but I did take statins for many years. I am also classified as pre-diabetic. My glucose levels are marginally a bit high. I have learned to live with the numbness of my feet.

Your doctor didn't help you with diet or supplements? There is a lot of good information here.

The dodoctor did not recommend any ddiet or supplements. I do have a good diet on my own, and take many supplements that have been mentioned on this site and esewhere. There has been no imrovement but they may have somewhat stablized my PN.

QUOTE:
"My glucose levels are marginally a bit high. " What is "marginally" high? I am just curious. My doctors idea of "marginally" high is very incorrect. I found to my surprise after my own research that anything above 140 one hour after eating can affect nerves, organs, etc. So while the dr does not get concerned until it is too late, I am very concerned, and have ignored my dr's "don't worry" attitude. |
