There are other things in wine and other alcoholic drinks.

They are byproducts of fermentation by the yeasts used. These can also cause reactions all by themselves. They are aldehydes, and require thiamine for metabolism.

This is why thiamine or benfotiamine work well for drinkers.

I can't tolerate wine or beer. If I drink it is filtered vodkas. (not all vodkas are extra filtered either).

A hangover is actually your body trying to get rid of the congeners in the drink as well as the alcohol. Alcohols get metabolized to aldehydes which are responsible for the side effects.

The same thing happens when people are infected with Candida yeast in the GI tract severely. They have these by products of the yeast's metabolism floating around that cause all kinds of symptoms.
