Another thing to look at... is wine. Are you drinking alot of wine?
Wine contains yeast, and the congeners of fermentation, which are aldehydes for the most part. This can cause tingling and other symptoms depending on how much you drink. Vit B1 helps with removal of alcohol and aldehydes. I'd go wine free for a while..and see what happens. I would expect someone from Italy to be drinking wine. If you are not, then this is obviously not a factor for you.

I took the results of more blood test today. Now the B12 level is high (733) and homocisteine low (7), so I'm a little bit worried it might not be only B12, because even if my blood values are ok, I still have all the symptoms. I uploaded a table with my blood tests from last 3 months compared. It's possible to see it here
http://www.nomadtravellers.com/image...co_Analisi.pdf To be understandable I should point out that: I have beta thalassemia blood tests of 08/02/13 were done after breakfast, at the emergency hospital in Romania blood tests of 26/02/13 were done in a lab in Romania after a treatment with folic acid, vitamin c, multivitamins, magnesium, that I all stopped 3 days before the test blood test of 14/04/13 at the emergency hospital in Italy blood test of 22/04/13 in a lab in Italy, after 8 injections ( 1000mcg B12 cyanocobalamin, 100mg B1 tiamina cloridato, 100mg B6 pirodissina cloridato, 20mg lidocaina cloridato, 40 mg alcool benzilico, potassiium esaliano ferrato) last one done around 4th of April; one daily sublingual pill of methylcobalamin 1000 mcg+multivitamins and multiminerals (ultimate coral club) stopped 5 days before the tests. |

If you were low for a long time before you discovered it, it will take longer than you think to heal up completely. The body sends B12 all over to do many jobs... it is stored in the liver, and goes into the spinal fluid that bathes the brain. Sometimes during healing other priorities may occur and the nerves have to wait again for more B12. Most of the people with pernicious anemia, have good periods and minor relapses over weeks and months, as this process goes on in the body on its own schedule and terms.
You are not really that "high" yet with B12... high is over 1000. You are better than you were, but this is all new and temporary...and healing is not quick. A good low homocysteine reflects that your folate and B6 are working with the B12. I think you still have a long road ahead of you. Do you use iron to treat your thalassemia? It would be a terrible twist of fate to inherit hemochromatosis along with your anemia. Too much iron will deposit in the body and cause nerve symptoms. This would have to be evaluated by a doctor .. hemochromatosis is not that rare as some doctors think. Iron overload is one complication of treatment for thalassemia according to this wiki explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta-thalassemia

No, I'm not using iron, I know it can be poisonous for my condition. Despite this in the blood test it came out very good

Update: I tried with the Epsom Salt ( I took 4 baths so far) but I didn't see any noticeable improvement.
I took the results of new blood tests, that summarized are: B12 absorption is ok, no tyrhoid problem, potassium, zynch and magnesium are ok, pth is normal In details, the results are available at this link http://www.nomadtravellers.com/image...co_Analisi.pdf In the last week I'm feeling generally better, and just a couple of hours I was feeling weak and I had to rest on the bed. But Also in the last months there were periods where I was almost good, and then I got worse again, so I can't say for sure if I'm on the good way, I'll have to wait more weeks to see. I also had less tachycardia and short breath, while pin and needles are still present, no noticeable improvement about that.

First...I wish you all the best. I understand "mystery" illnesses far too well. I may not have a lot to add, but many of your symptoms were similar to those that I first experienced a few years ago. After months of tests, someone finally checked my B12 level and my ANA count. Eventually, I was diagnosed with Pernicious Anemia...an autoimmune condition caused by the body's inability to absorb vitamin B. Many (if not all of your symptoms) can be caused by this disease.
Again, you may very well have already been checked for this...but you have my best wishes for a diagnosis and speedy recovery Matt |
