Default leg cramps

i have been treated with 75 mg. plavix & a low dose aspirin for a heart attack i had in july '13. for the past month i've been bothered by feet & leg cramps but am leery about trying oral magnesium. even tho this is not a cardio forum, i was hoping someone in a similar situation might have some thoughts. i have epsom lotion which i will start using asap but wondered if there were a pill that i could try.

also, if anyone is on an anti-platelet drug, are cramps a possible side effect? i googled but could not find any plavix link.

i will see the cardio in 10 days. might get some info then.

thanks!

The lotion may fix you up very quickly. I find it far better than oral.

Rub a small amount into your target muscles. You may only need it once a day...so start that way. If you take it at night, you will sleep better. You don't need alot...this is not a moisturizer, or cosmetic lotion.

However, if you have a major pathology going on causing this, the response may be less.

Some drugs' side effects are due to nutrient interference.

Plavix is still rather new to have studies done on that.

However, magnesium has been looked at as a therapeutic agent to improve platelet stickiness....
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21449156

and another interesting paper:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11105330

That is great you had such a quick response. If you continue, and are also using blood pressure drugs or beta blockers, you may see a decline in blood pressure...so monitor that.

wow! very encouraging articles!

i am going to see if i had any tests which measured mag levels & if there were any deficiencies. i am scheduled to see a new cardio & hopefully, she's amenable to supplementation. to date, not one of the many cardios has been in favor of anything "outside the box."

many thanks, mrs d!

Hi,

I am very late jumping into this thread but I am also on Plavix and I have episodes of foot and leg cramps and never made the possible connection. Never had leg cramps until I started taking a whole bunch of meds for various conditions. Just wanted to say thanks for the thread, for the responses by others, and the information. Found it all very interesting.
