If every other day works, then I'd try that, and keep a log.

I was having terrible BP control, while on that lisinopril. And I was using the CVS epsom lotion also nightly. Once I stopped that lisinopril which was over stressing my system big time with the lupus and bradykinin excess, my pressure dropped! With the tiny beta blocker dose, + the magnesium lotion --still it was the CVS until just recently, my pressure was normal in the doctor's office for the first time in YEARS!

You might need longer on the lotion to see a mega effect.

Just keep taking it and recording it. Your doctor will want to see that log... like mine did. It is possible eventually you may be able to stop that med. No guarantees though!

The scary thing is that I LITERALLY gained 10 pounds in 5 days. I know it was all water but is that normal???? It made me wonder if this pill has ruined my bodies ability to control water retention.

Yes, I am doing every other day and it does great, which is why I tried another day then another, then it was a week. Wasn't till about day 6 that it started climbing which made me think all that water retention was a problem??? Then made me feel like I will never get off it.

But thanks for the encouragement, I am loving the mag lotion for sure! But I don't use it everyday, should I?? I only use it during bad flares, thinking I didn't wanna abuse it.

I'd use it every day for a while. It is not a drug...it is providing an essential mineral to your body which uses it in about 300 various biochemical reactions!

You may have been dehydrated by the drug...over time. If your blood was affected, then your circulation could have been impaired as well (thickened).

THANKS!!

Yes, I do believe it has adversely affected my body. Being on it for years has to have negative effects, anything we put in our body effects us.

Hope to one day get off it.

just a thought.........i was on a diuretic as a BP controller and to counter the water retention effects of Celebrex..... for some years.
when it became ineffective for my BP i had to switch to something else.

i had what my GP described as *rebound* retention....I had terrible peripheral oedema for a good while til i toughed it out and it eventually mostly sorted itself out as best it is going to get while i am on Celebrex.
ie i still have some fluid

i suppose that down dosing might well have the same eventual effect as cold turkey and waiting it out like i did ???

So what do you use now? If it is an ACE inhibitor, that will cause fluid also. I had a HUGE reaction to lisinopril....edema EVERYWHERE... and also a drug induced lupus as well. It built up slowly...so you are not likely to notice, until things get dicey in the chest and everywhere else, for me.

i used Atecand with no fluid when i got it all sorted in the end.... but changed to a beta blocker about 6 months ago when i developed a trigemeny and bigemeny

it stops the palpations and my BP seems ok in the main.
i will never be fluid free i suspect

i have yet to do the maths to see (as i mentioned before) to see if there is a connection with my intake of Nexium and the cardiac stuff.
the same arrythymias were induced very clearly and directly a few years ago by (forget the name), but two different triglyceride drugs.

since i know what induced the gastric problems and have been treated for months now..... i have told my Gp i am down dosing the Nexium and watching my heart rate and rhythm as i do so.
(and try the mag oil !!!!!!!)

i have another cardic irregularity from the past so it is all confusing

i am sorry about your lupus
drugs are such a mixed blessing and i think their ill side effects are hugely underestimated....by everyone.
when i tell people of my effects from a one only flu vaccine........they are simpy disbelieving.

i rarely take the full dose of a drug to start with and tend to test with part doses where i can........which is mostly the case when it comes to it

thank you

I completely agree with you on how uneducated dr's and people are about side affects of drugs.

More people are sick from side effects of drugs than from disease.

Read that sentence again and it's mind blowing.

Your comment about nexium makes me think that is my moms problem. She was on nexium for years then stopped taking it cold turkey and has had problems ever since. I wonder if many of her new problems are from quitting the nexium.

I am taking my bp diuretic every other day right now.

And FYI did you all know that the allergy medication zyrtec can addictive???

IT IS. Or can be for a percentage of the population. Of course I am one of them. I had NO idea, and took zyrtec for years. I never realized when I would stop taking it I would start itching and think it was allergies so I would take the zyrtec again when low and behold it was the ZYRTEC making me itch.

Google it. A class action law suit is in the works. Some poor folks talk about it like its crack cocaine the way they suffer. Fortunately for me, while I did suffer with extreme itching and bumps, after a month it got better. I am still off it but the bumps reappear but it gets better every month.

AMAZING.

Imagine if you will ...a drug company that produces an allergy pills that is addictive to the point it mimicks the disease to keep you taking the pill.

Ya, I believe it. It happened to me. There is even a facebook page for sufferers.

Drugs, can't take em, can't not take em.

Shocked

This is AMAZING.... I had never heard of it before.

I wonder what is going on with it? A sort of rebound allergic response? You know Zyrtec is chemically related to Atarax...a very strong antihistamine with also some anxiety reducing effects.
Vistaril is another salt of it...used mostly for sedation in children before procedures, and in adults who use opiates which cause itching. Atarax has long been held to be the most potent for itching problems. And often is given for severe reactions that involve the skin. Both Atarax (hydroxyzine) and Vistaril (hydroxyzine pamoate) are still on RX. Zyrtec was developed by Pfizer (who owned the patent on both Atarax and Vistaril) in the hopes of altering it a bit to make it less sedating.

I've used Zyrtec on and off for 2 years, but never for more than a few months. It made me much too tired and hung over feeling.
I had no problems stopping it.

I did find many people on various blogs discussing their nightmares with it though. I am at a loss for an answer to it at this point. I'll look around PubMed too. And DrugCite. If I find anything I'll come back here.
