Default I Am Still Hanging On!

Thank you ALL for your support and suggestions! I will continue to hang in there. I can see that I am not alone in my suffering. Some of you have pain issues that make me ashamed for whining about mine. This is a great forum, and probably the first place that I will learn about new meds that can help me. I was denied dissability benifits and appealed the denial, and meanwhile attempted tp go back to work at a new job, but was fired after one month, with NO reason given. My medical insurance card came in the mail a couple of days before I was cut loose, and the insurance coverage ended on April 30. I intend to check in with this forum periodically. Do not worry. Your prayers have been GREATLY appreciated. I will be OK.

electrocuted, you should look into ketamine infusion. It can completely stop all of the pain permanently. 50% of people with PN or RSD who did it became pain free for 3+ years. I think that is the best option to try to be honest, but the next option is having the nerves injected with an agent that stops them from sending signals (they are dead). It is better to lose the sensory nerves in your feet than to lose your life.

By the way, Why don't you use opioids, or tramadol/cymbalta, or all those other alternatives??

You really should get tramadol or cymbalta, they help with depression and pain. If they don't work, try to find a doctor willing to prescribe amphetamines. They actually help a lot with pain and depression also.

Default Disability denial...

This makes me so mad... You pay and pay into a system that won't pay IF and WHEN you need it... UNFAIR and OUTRAGEOUS!!!

Electrocuted,
A number of people I have met have been denied benefits. Most of the people got an attorney who specializes in "denied social security" and on appeal were able to get even back benefits. It was not an overnight process and for some entailed a hearing. There was no charge upfront, and payment is made from benefits, if they are approved. If you have not seen one of these attorneys, you might want to consider this.

I am so glad to see that you have posted here. I have thought about you so much since I read your first posting. I hope that you will get a doctor who will be receptive to giving you some help...

We hope to hear more from you and would really like to hear how things are going. I know there will be something that will help at least reduce your pain to a tolerable level. Meanwhile, know that we all are thinking of you...

Cathie

Electrocuted,
Don't let your insurance get away from you.
You are entitled to keep it, if only thru the COBRA act.
You cannot be terminated from the insurance just because you are not employed. You can transfer from that group to an individual policy.
They can adjust premiums, though. But cannot deny you coverage.
If you cannot find a job, you can get medical assistance thru welfare,
and of course you're entitled to unemployment insurance.
Keep hangin' in there.

Default Electro - I agree with

BOB about COBRA - THEY HAVE to, absolutely HAVE to send you a letter about continuing benefits....It should be sent registered or certified...and You have a very, very short window of days to respond... It's a fuzzy process to those who don't know it {I used to administer COBRA benes to upwards of 5,000 people, so I KNOW where things go wrong}

What was the effective date of your coverage? and when did you stop working [according to them...next comes the dates they enrolleld you and dis-enrolled you-important for your coverage] First call the medical plan to find out what they THINK your plan coverage dates are, then call your now former employer's personel coverage person [could be personnel or payroll] Ask them the same question but don't let them know what you know from the med. plan. Any discrepancies by the employer could set them up for trouble...trust me on this!

PM me if you need details. I realize it's harder than hard to 'hold-on!' with the pain and all uncertainties. But, this is one part I KNOW about inside-out and can help you get coverage [tho at the WHOLE cost, not just employee part-that's the rules] you are entitled to. It might be worth the costs short term-to get what you need to keep yourself together!

I'm glad you've posted...the one bad thing about the 'net is sometimes...you never know! Each of us probably can say...it could be me-and I hope someone's there....

Hugs and good thoughts till later! - j

Thumbs Up

Hey e, I'm so glad to see you back and a bit more optimistic. I know you were REALLY Down and discouraged when you started this thread. I've been there I KNOW how it feels, believe me.

I want to tell you something about an experience I had about 20 years ago. I fell in a dark room and smashed my face into the side of a bathtub. I saw a flash of Light and I was sure I was dead. After a few minutes I got up off the floor and made my way back to bed. I did pass out then, in my bed. I woke up the following day almost into the evening. My whole left side of my face was numb and burning like it was on fire. I looked in the mirror and smiled. Needless to say that side of my face was dead. And MAN did it hurt eventhough it was numb. They call it parasthesia. I did go to the hospital ER had a head exray and it showed I had multiple fractures in my head but since I didn't have health insurance they sent me home with NO pain meds. I will tell you I suffered for 10 years with pain you can't imagine. I cried almost constantly and that and the wincing only made it worse.

Just by chance I happened to see something SOMEWHERE about Benedryl having some sort of effect on nerve pain which they couldn't explain. Well, with my measly income I bought some and tried it. It worked. Not 100% but it DID alleviate the pain better than Tylenol or even Excedrin. I am just telling you this because I know how desperate I was for some relief and it did afford me some. It has taken a long time for this to improve but I do have SOME feeling back on that side of my face AND the muscle function has returned completely. And yes, I do have a better income now. I Finally got SSI and SSDI because of my Epilepsy. And I do have Health Insurance. It took me 2 tries to get it { 4 years }. They don't make it easy to get. Just keep trying and you'll get it.

What a joy that you posted,we all care and have been concerned
about you. Bob gave you good advice about the Cobra Act. Also no shame
in applying for Medicade. Also you might get someone at Legal Aid to help
you. You have a whole group of wonderful people as well,we would be happy
to help with your bad days as well as the good ones..You have made this a
good day for me. Thank you for that. Sue
