My best guess is it's the Oxcarbazepine, but I'm not sure and I don't want to stop it cold.
Started with the Edema and rash on the same day. Edema went away within 2 days. Rash wasn't bad, barely noticable when I went to the doc. Flared up again by Friday night, and has only gotten worse. I have not taken the Mirapex or the Zoloft since then. I have not used deoderant either, just in case. I have not changed anything, not my detergent (All free and clear), my fabric softeners (scent free), my shampoo (Pantene purifying), my conditioner, hair gel, hand soap, etc. Even didn't wear a bra yesterday. Washed all my bedding in hot water. The rash is only affecting my upper torso. Arms (mostly one arm, all the way down), back of armpit area, back of neck (so I put my hair up) and down back a little, under the bra line and down my stomach to waist, in cleavage. It looks a little like hives, but smaller and not as red unless I"m scratching. They are more like little bumps. Have taken benedryl and it's only helping a bit, and making me really out of it. |

Rash only getting worse. How long does it take for a drug to get out of one's body so it stops making hives? I haven't had my mirapex since Wed night, and the hives are getting worse. If it's not that, I'm guessing it's the oxcarbazepine.
Called the doc yesterday and he just said to check in again in a week, I told him I'm taking Benedryl, which didn't seem to help last night. Taking a shower makes it worse. Sweating seems to make it worse, and I did sweat all night even though it was raining outside. Any area that is touched more is bad (cleavage, under bra, forearms). |

I wonder if it could be shingles?
Does this rash hurt? I am still leary of the Trileptal you are taking. This drug has a serious toxicity profile...especially with time used.

you might need a steroid to get that rash under control. every once in a blue that is what i have to do. Id be a bit leery of a doctor that doesnt even want you to come in to look at such a severe rash. rashes are nothing to play with especially if your symptoms are worsening.

I did see the doc last week, but my rash had gone away, temporarily.
No, the rash doesn't hurt. Just itchy. It's classic hives, I think. I'll take a pic of it when it appears on my arm or somewhere else that I can take a clear pic. I also have my deposition tomorrow for my legal case. I'm not pushing the doc because I'm hoping part of this is just due to stress. I had actually told them I didn't want to come in when I checked in. And I'm thinking it's the trileptal too. My neuro is retiring this week, found one nearish but I have to wait two months for an appt. Will need to go to the PCP to get a new anti-seizure med, and I'm sure he doesn't want to prescribe one. I'm going to give in and take a bendryl at work, since my husband drove me to work I don't have to drive. I'll call the doc again to go in on Thurs if it doesn't clear up. I do agree that I think I might need a steroid shot. |

Going to go to the doc this afternoon to follow up on my hives. I had my deposition yesterday, and the hives didn't go away, so it's not "just stress". I haven't taken the mirapex for a week, so I'm guessing it's the oxcarbazepine. So now I will need something else
![]() Gabapentin made me too stupid, I kept forgetting words. If this one is giving me hives, then others I'm sure will do the same. I don't have brand name prescription coverage, just generic. Since I'm going to my PCP, and not my neuro since I don't have one now, I need to be able to help him give me the right meds. Any suggestions? I need something that doesn't make me stupid or gain weight. I had a hard time tirating up on the oxcarbazepine. It made my short term memory really sucky for a little while, but eventually my body got used to it and it was okay...until now (hypothetically). |

Getting Prednisone for the itching.
I'm not fond of the thought of steroids, BUT, if it the PN is autoimmune related, then I may see some help in my PN symtpoms, right? The whole thing where one doc things I may have MS is still bugging me, even though my MRI was good, too many symptoms of something going on. I think I'm taking a week's worth that goes down a pill every couple days. |

If your PN is inflammatory.... yes the pred may help.
Sometimes it does not though. You'll just have to see what happens.
