I am sorry that happened to you. I hope it goes away. With so many things, it can go away the next day.

Initially I had a dr and was told this was caused by hypothyroid, and I have accepted that. Things did get better after getting on thyroid meds, especially the numbness in my heels went away, and heel pain went away.

PN symptoms never go away, burning is my worse symptom.

The zapping only happened that one day and has not happened again.

But as you all know, it is so scary to have new symptoms appear. It's almost a debilitating fear that things are going to keep getting worse.

Thank you for all you advice and more importantly giving me a forum to state my fears out loud with other people who understand my irrational fears.

Hi Stacy,
Try not to worry. I have had the zaps since shortly after my PN began. It comes and goes now. If they get too bad you may need to see your doctor. You are correct though most of their response is to try this or that medication.

Good Luck!

Things are not good all around right now. The burning is out of control.

I had 2 great weeks where I was amazed how good I felt now its the opposite. It sends me in a downward spiral of what am I doing wrong, what caused it, what food, supplement, etc. do I need.

Does anyone else have a tendency to blame yourself when things turn bad???

Stacy, please don't blame yourself or waste energy trying to figure out if you did something wrong.
Every one of us, whether suffering from diabetic, toxic, alcoholic, hereditary, cancer treatment related, or the infamous "idiopathic" (many of which I believe are hereditary) neuropathy has good days and bad, or bad days and worse. The bad days can stretch into weeks, and you find yourself with a new normal that is not quite as good as before. You have limited control over this disease.

I am afraid that many modern books and magazines with their emphasis on manipulating health through diet, exercise, and supplements can have the effect of blaming the patient who finds herself with a chronic disease. If you are taking the supplements recommended here and have experienced some improvement, you may be doing all you than you can. Your energy would be better spent trying to make yourself as comfortable as possible, doing something that you enjoy, thinking of little treats for yourself while you ride out the lows.
