My housemate had it done, said it was nothing. A neighbor had it done and hollered. I decided I didn't want to have the test and wiggled out of it. I am like you I guess, don't like needles. If your doctor really thinks this would help you for a DX , I guess you might have to do it. My DX was set before they asked me for the EMG. I wish you all the best in what ever you decide to do. ginnie

it was my understanding that the room had to be cool or else the heat would slow down the speed of the nerve signals.
i have done quite a few emg/ncs's the last 10 years. at least 8 probably more because i have legs, feet, arms and hands involved. although i wouldnt say i would like to do emg/ncs's as a hobby, its not something i dread doing at all. i dont find them all that bad and for me they are informative first as a diagnosis and later to keep track of progression. i do them every 3-4 or so years now. |

However, in my case, you do know that you have progressed. Sometimes it is just for the benefit of your doctor. My support group, a well known (CMT) neurologist, told us this. CMT is progressive no matter what you do. Some CMTers it hurts to have the test. Others not so much. It all depends on many things as far as CMT goes. The type of CMT, etc.

Thanks to all who responded. I have s better understanding of the proceedure. I have mine Monday so I will let everyone know. I spent 23 years on a police force yet I am terrified off needles.

Thank you for being in the police force. You do not or did not get paid enough for the service you gave. You should have been paid what the football stars are paid. Nurses, teachers too. Good luck on your test. ginnie

Thanks to all for your experiences concerning the test. I retired after 23 years in law enforcement. Never gave a thought about what could happen but the thought of needles in me is scary. Monday night I will post my experiences. |

dont feel bad. i worked with a guy, worked in nypd then switched to fdny, first one through the door on both jobs etc. one day the med mobile came around, they went to take a vial of blood for medical testing, when he saw the needle he passed out.

Well I I only got shocked about 60 times and the needle about 15. The doctor only tested my right side. I told him the left was worse but he said he got what he needed. Results Dec. 12
