Here I am again scared about the test. I don't like needles of any type. I have gotten use to acupuncture needles but they are small but burnnif inserted wrong.
A friend told me that the nerve study is very painful she made them stop her test I don't want to base everything on her experience Help or am i about to enter the bowels of hell ![]() ![]() |

Are you posting about an EMG/NCV test? If so, painful for some and not for others.

Ever get a static shock? It's like that.
If you go into it believing it will be painful, I can almost assure you it will be. Doc

Make sure your legs are warm. At Hopkins they put me under a heat lamp for an hour before they could start the test. It affects the results. |

I sent u a PM about mine......hope I didn't contribute to u being worried about taking the test......and the posts on here are right....it's different for everyone....the shocking didn't bother me at all. It was more 'irritating' than anything. The needles were a little painful but only 1 hurt and he stopped when I told him that. The needle thing was very brief and done at the end of the test with the electrical things

My housemate had it done, said it was nothing. A neighbor had it done and hollered. I decided I didn't want to have the test and wiggled out of it. I am like you I guess, don't like needles. If your doctor really thinks this would help you for a DX , I guess you might have to do it. My DX was set before they asked me for the EMG. I wish you all the best in what ever you decide to do. ginnie

it was my understanding that the room had to be cool or else the heat would slow down the speed of the nerve signals.
i have done quite a few emg/ncs's the last 10 years. at least 8 probably more because i have legs, feet, arms and hands involved. although i wouldnt say i would like to do emg/ncs's as a hobby, its not something i dread doing at all. i dont find them all that bad and for me they are informative first as a diagnosis and later to keep track of progression. i do them every 3-4 or so years now. |

However, in my case, you do know that you have progressed. Sometimes it is just for the benefit of your doctor. My support group, a well known (CMT) neurologist, told us this. CMT is progressive no matter what you do. Some CMTers it hurts to have the test. Others not so much. It all depends on many things as far as CMT goes. The type of CMT, etc.
