[Idiopathic PN]

I know there is someone here in the group who developed numbness and tingling due to radiation, I'd like to know what supplements are good for this kind of neuropathy.

I think (IMO) that the same vitamins/ supplements which are used for general/ overall nerve health would be of benefit to you. vitamins that are good for nerve regeneration/ health are Omega 3/6 such as Fishoil,flaxseed oil, primrose oil. Also a multi B vitamin, B12, Vitamin D. I also take Magnesium and R-Lipoic Acid. On top there are stickies which list good vitamins $ supplements for nerves. You could do a search on the forum entering in the keyword 'radiation'. You might find a thread which may be of use to you and also locate other posters who have written their stories regarding radiation induced neuropathy, but may be absent from forum at this time.

Radiation damages DNA... so using the DNA (mitochondrial) support nutrients may help damage after the fact.

Thank you for your reply. I will tell my friend about your reply.

If you remember, i Mentioned her condition here a while back. After several months of undergoing holistic treatment, her cancer improved. But for financial reasons (as holistic treatment is not covered by insurance), she stopped her treatment after she improved. After 7 months, her cancer went back. She had radiation treatment in her right breast...after the completion of the the sessions, she has experienced 2x a complete numbness of her whole right arm (from shoulder down to the fingers).

I know of breast cancer patients who prevented spread and did well with treatments by using flax oil mixed in cottage cheese..(which provides sulfur).

The combination of alpha linolenic acid (and essential omega -3 ) plus sulfur seems to work for some reason.

Does it depend on the type of breast cancer or did it just work for the gal you refer to? Just curious. The article mentions studies in mice and rats and small studies in humans. One should read the whole article.

Thank you for your reply. I did not have radiation. My question was for my friend who finished her radioactive treatment and now experienced 2x total numbness in her right arms/hands. I thought of asking here what might help here what might complement her treatment. She takes holistic treatment as complement to her traditional treatment, except chemo.

I could very well be another person with this problem, insofar as I had radiation in '09 for oropharyngeal cancer and, about 2 years later, developed what has been diagnosed as polyneuropathy in both hands and arms and some in my feet.

By coincidence to your post I was with my oncologist today for my yearly checkup and we of course discussed the PN. She had never seen a case of rads (as against chemo, which we know is not uncommon) causing PN but didn't rule it out. She said she would discuss it with her group and get back to me.

If I learn anything that could help anyone here I'll surely post it.

In checking different sites they say that radiation can cause PN. Don't know that it's common but according to the sites it can.
