Default Progressive PN for last 4 months

Hello everyone,

I am new to this site. I am a 24 year old female who started experiencing nerve pain in Sept./2013. It started behind my right eye and had taken on the symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia (bilateral and in all branches). Since then it has progressed to my extremities in the form of electric shock-like pain, burning, tingling and shooting pain. Additionally, I have experienced muscle fasciculations and sensitivity to wind, hot/cold, light touch (such as blankets/sheets).

I've had two visits to separate neurologists and my physical examination was normal. I've also had a CT scan (only a few days after experiencing the first symptoms in Sept.) and an MRI on Dec. 30th which I have yet hear about my results. My blood tests have come back normal as well.

I took Tegretol (400mg/day) for the first month and didn't find any relief. Switched to Neurontin (900mg/day) and have been on it for over a month. It doesn't appear to be lessening my symptoms.

I am not sure what to expect from all of this -- I am frightened and feel helpless because I don't know what the diagnosis is.

I am really glad I found this forum. I look forward to chatting with people in similar situations. Together we can all help each other out!

Welcome to NeuroTalk:

Have you been tested for B12 levels? You need to be at 400pg/ml at least which is the new cut off for low.

If you have been tested get your results because doctors still
follow antiquated lab ranges and go down to 200 (calling that normal) which many people can get symptoms at those levels.

Here is a video to watch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvEiz...ature=youtu.be

And this is my B12 informational thread:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread85103.html

This is only the start. There are 3 basic nutrients you can be low in commonly:
B12
magnesium
Vit D

Also essential fatty acids tend to be ignored, but today the public knows more about these. These are basically dietary. Omega-3's in Flax and fish oil.

Thanks mrsD,

I have been tested for my B12, magnesium and vitamin D and all were in the "normal range".

Hi L.Krow,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. It is a great place to come for information and suggestions. I also find it very comforting to talk with people who are going through some of the same things I am.
I am sorry you have to be going through this at such a young age. Please let us know what your MRI results are. I'm guessing you are waiting for an apt with one of your doctors to find out those results.
Keep coming back! hopeful

Your next question should be.... what is "normal"?

Numbers below 400pg/ml are still reported as "normal"...and there can be symptoms and damage in that low "normal" range which is NOT normal at all.
