High levels of mercury in the blood are not good.
Sometimes you have to see a doctor who has experience with heavy metals. This would be an integrative doctor, or one who is trained in environmental medicine. Each type can be found on Google, from their main associations. I am not sure about other countries. In that case you may have to call and ask: "Does this doctor have experience with heavy metal poisoning diagnosis and treatment?" If not ask for a referral.

I am in Dallas so same country as you Mrs. D. After the mercury levels came back high, my neurologist here referred me to a leading toxicologist at UT Southwestern. He did not seem to think the levels were enough to warrant treatment. He indicated they needed to be more in the 100s rather than the high 30s. The Johns Hopkins toxicology department concurred. So, I did not pursue it any further.
It is just scary because the past two weeks my symptoms are getting suddenly worse. I have no idea why. Along with the fatigue, extreme muscle weakness in arms and legs (right now the typing is causing my arm to feel numb all over), ice cold in my hands and feet, chills, constipation, dizziness, going back and forth from numbness to shooting pains, and at night a rapid heart beat which is new. There has to be something else going on and I cannot imagine that the two nights in the past month that I had a drink could be doing all of this!!! What is your thinking on the B vitamins? Could they come back normal on blood work but not actually be absorbed properly? That seems somewhat impossible... |

I'd check out an integrative doctor and/or an environmental one.
Take your test results with you to any appointments you make. Here is a Mayo article on mercury. (and the different types). It gives the normal range also: http://www.mayomedicallaboratories.c...erpretive/8618

Wow...according to that article I should be more concerned with my mercury levels. It is so confusing to have doctors tell you not to be concerned, although the first neurologist who discovered the tests was worried enough to look into chelation therapy for me. Then he could not find anyone who actually does it anymore! Perhaps I should start a new thread about mercury poisoning and see if anyone has experience in this area?
