what does this term mean? I was reading old posts about axon neuropathy or demyelinating I have never found out what this exactly means.

Does anyone have any suggestions on if there is a way to stop neuropathy in the back of my head/neck? I think tissues were damaged when my neck was stretched. Each night the vibrations start with their buzz buzz pattern and shaky feeling. I don't know how it got to this state so fast. I keep hoping this will go away.

Demyelinating means the fatty protective covering of the axon of the nerve cell called the sheath, is damaged, deteriorating, and thus the signals being sent underneath this insulation cannot work properly. Demyelinating lesions occur in the brain also, spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system.

Some of the symptoms you have can also relate to compressed nerves, or trauma to the nerves.

are most neuropathies not this kind but the axon being affected ? if a dr said you had this kind would that have any affect on the outcome of treatments ? would this point to a particular disease that is causing the neuropathy?

Demyelinating axons in the peripheral system, may be caused by vaccines, autoimmune disease, and toxins/infection/drugs.

Demyelinating axons in the brain are caused by multiple sclerosis, and parasites, and some drugs, strokes.

The bright green stuff on the axon is the myelin.

so my report saysmoderate distally predominant sensory/motor polyneuropathy demyelinating type in the lower extremities so I guess I can's say from this if this is axon or was it myelin that is affected???

just a general conclusion I have neuropathy???

I looked at my blood work too and they did the Mag testing I think it is and sulfite or something I know initially I was tested for lyme if this looks more autoimmune don't know why more was not tested?? I had a ANA done the other day looking for lupus

I started with that jerking in the am thinking it was the tramadol but that has not subsided having another MRI -I hate -on the brain now but not with contrast

I am getting more and more worried the effect all of this is having on me screwing my neck up did not help I have had so much buzzing all over comes and goes more so in my feet for yrs and muscle spasms

this afternoon I got jolted down low
I have had nerve sensation on and off on the outside of my rear for wks now I sure hope I don't get jolts again as I yelled out loud

Polyneuropathy means many nerves involved in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) which is outside the brain and spinal cord. Here is a site that might be interesting for you.

Perhaps you should ask your doctor to explain it all to you in layman's terms. Just a thought.

The myelin is the fatty sheath that coats the axons. Due to environmental or genetic reasons it can start to break down.
