Hi,
Still waiting to see the Neurologist, first of the June... My Rheumatologist has me on Celebrex for arthritis pain, I have noticed a marked increase of numbness in feet and hands, just wondering if there is any connection. It is difficult to pinpoint anything with PN, as the symptoms fluctuate so much. Anyone heard of any PN troubles with Celebrex? It is the first anti- inflammatory that my stomach can take... BTW I have been asking my family about symptoms of PN, so far, my dad, and mom, brother, nephew, grandfather and aunt has symtoms, I guess that is a good indicator for hereditary neuropathy... Thanks for any ideas... |

Celebrex has a sulfonamide allergy warning attached to it.
People who cannot metabolize sulfonamide linkages, or who have an allergic component to them, will react to Celebrex. I suggest you discuss discontinuing this with your doctor and find another NSAID. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11330653 There are people who just react to various drugs and when that happens, it is a signal to make a change. People with sensitivity to sulfonamides may also react to sulfites used in food and wine. http://www.webmd.com/allergies/guide...te-sensitivity People who drink wine and beer and have PN may in fact have a sulfite reaction and not PN at all. (the symptoms may be paresthesias related to the sulfite content.)

There are people allergic to NSAIDs too. Not common, but it does exist.

Interesting that the cox 2 inhibitors can cause coagulation problems, kind of irresponsible to prescribe a med like this, when the coagulation problem was known. It was nice to have the pain reduction. I am going to try a natural anti inflammatory solutions, ginger-turmeric comb from the local naturopath (this will drive my conservative doctors crazy!) But I think science has failed! Now I will see what the Neurologist has to say next Monday... Thanks for the suggestions MrsD! |

Hypercoagulation will thicken the blood and make the circulation in the feet and hands problematic.
This is one cause of PN. Do you take fish oil or krill oil? This may help. Some Vit E may help too... use only natural tocoferols mixed and not the synthetic type alpha only.
