Default HI, I'm new here.

Hi

I'm two years post surgery on my lumbar spine. Micro Discectomy and Lateral Stenosis Decompression.

Mechanically my back has been great since surgery however, still have Neuropathy.

Was on Gabapentin for three years but began feeling really ill on it. I have not been able to find a replacement that offers the same level of pain relief.

Anybody in a similar situation that could offer some advice, would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi I'm new too; I was diaognosed with idopathic neuropathy 3 yrs ago, and it has gotten worse over time, the nerve pain at times is unbearable, cant sleep, or walk very far, I also have joint problems. I take Gabapentan, cymbolta, water pill and a pill for high blood pressure. I'm a mess. but these medications help take the edge off. I am being proactive, even though its painful I still do what I can to stay busy, half the time in a wheelchair, eating better, and having a positive outlook is key. I know it will never go away so I have to learn to live with it. take B-12 5,000 mg, vitimin D, and a suppliament of calcium, magnesium, and zinc, gives u energy and helps the kidneys, supporting the immune system

Welcome to NeuroTalk:

Please check your label on the Cal/Mag/zinc product. If it says
magnesium OXIDE then you are not absorbing the magnesium at all.

You need a better form of magnesium, like SlowMag, or a chelate like glycinate, citrate, etc.

There is a magnesium lotion at WalMart and Amazon.com called Morton Epsom lotion. Applying this once a day will allow transport thru the skin, to help also. Use only about a quarter's dollop at your target (if the feet for example), once a day. Apply only to intact skin.

I have been taking cymbalta and nortriptyline to help with my pain. I have also had some help with epidural injections.

Hi Andy, and welcome.

My base pain relief is a drug called Lyrica, which takes care of the electric shock style pain. I also take Tramadol to help take the edge of the burning, stinging pain. Both work nicely to keep my pain managable. Like Gabapentin, Lyrica needs easing into slowly.

I'm interested to see how you go, what works for you. Please keep us informed of your progress.

Debbie
