Unhappy

[QUOTE=hopeful;1101691]Hi everyone,
The pain I have been in hasn't seemed to respond to the IVIG. I emailed my rheumo yesterday. He takes can of my medication and often corresponds with my neuro.

He would like me to try one of the neuropathy meds again. He suggested neurotin or cymbalta. If you remember I had such a hard time withdrawing from the cymbalta so I don't want to try that again.

For those of you who have or are taking neurotin do you experience a lot of side effects. I tried it once before but couldn't get to a dose that worked. It made me out of it pretty much. I was working then so I couldn't stay on it.

I can't work anymore so I'm thinking of trying it. If I have to put up with the side effects for a little while until my body gets use to it I can rest etc. now.

I'm always so afraid of medications. I get so anxious about trying anything new.

I'd appreciate hearing any advice or info you can give me.

Hi Hopeful
I tried Cymbalta too for my SFN, it was awful. I tried neurotin couldn't get past 100 mgs , it gave me palpitations by the third day (I started on a small dose, I'm very sensitive to meds and like you I get nervous about taking them!) The Neurologist gave me Lyrica. Did you try Lyrica? You start at a low dose also ,but you don't have to take as much as Neurotin. I did get that high feeling at first but about three weeks into the med the side effects eased up. I was lucky , I never gained weight/or swelling with Lyrica either. I got up to 350 mgs after a few mos. It took the edge off of some of my "pain"..but it doesn't take all the pain away. I don't think any of these type meds do. I also take Tramadol as needed. What type of symptoms are you having?? I hope this helps..

Default Gabapentin

I am currently on 3200 mg of Gabapentin taken at a dose of 800 mgs 4 times per day. I can't tolerate pain very well. Most with my pain level would probably tough it out. I do hate the mental fogginess of it though, but I despise pain even worse. I would say a good portion of the questions I ask my wife begin with "Where is my........?" I too have to search for the right word sometimes as well. I've made peace with it I suppose. I held out for a few years before I gave in. It does help though....
