Even though I thought I'd resigned myself to the "idiopathic" part of my diagnosis, I'm continuing to read and dig.

I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed any correlation between the onset of or worsening of neuropathy symptoms with digestive discomfort, especially intestinal?

Small fiber neuropathy can cause Gastroparesis which is one manifestation of autonomic neuropathy.

I'm actually trying to think out-of-the-box from a causal standpoint. I'm thinking of all the things that happened leading up to the onset of my SFN symptoms. The very first thing I can cite was when I took iron supplements for a low ferritin condition and tore up my digestive tract something fierce. I haven't been right since.

My full blown SFN symptoms didn't set in for about 10 weeks after that, but I think I was having milder symptoms from that point forward.

More to the point, I've been reading about betaine HCL and how it's helped some fibro people.

I had low ferritin too, before the onset. Much better now that I don't have my monthly.

i had alot of digestion problems and gerd and so forth. I had it really bad for many years. It turned out to be a medication I was on and never in a million years would I have thought. I naturally assumed it was 100% PN related. It was a Beta blocker. Once I was switched to a different one it resolved within 2 days. In saying that, PN does cause stomach issues and I probably am affected to some degree, since my PN is extensive but the worst most intolerable gut issues was indeed med related. Have you looked at that possibility? Aussie

I don't have any known issues now, but the iron supplements caused major ones. I didn't stay on them long, but before all was said and done, I was a mess, and my intestines felt like they were were on fire. It was the start of the mess I'm now in.

The only meds I take now are gabapentin and the BCP.
