I am also 53. Mine is a hereditary neuropathy, so I have had symptoms all my life but the past five years have been straight downhill. The strength in my arms and legs is half what it was at 45. I have a few friends my age and even without neuropathy it seems like arthritis, migraines, chronic fatigue, etc, all start to pile up and interfere with normal life. Not the expected gradual slowing down due to natural aging but a big and somewhat sudden drop.
