Allodynia is a condition that results from existing neuropathy...so typically, it would mean already having neuropathy that is causing the allodynia. That would explain why the usually non-painful stimuli hurts, but the underlining neuropathy is making the pain stay there.
This is why I think you should go back to why you went to the acupuncturist and address the initial symptoms that took you there. They are likely the first signs of your neuropathy. Do you remember what triggered that jerking and twitching? Were there any other symptoms that came along with those? |

I'm sorry, I don't remember who has what here...just don't have good memory retention for that kind of stuff. There are posters here with it, as here is where I learned about it, many moons ago. Maybe start a thread on allodynia and see what kind of responses you get.
I have a mild case of it...it waxes and wanes. But sometimes the lightest touch on my lower legs feels like a knife taking off the top layer of skin. Right now, it's not that bad...I think because the IVIG I get is helping it (along with my SFN). I think Glenntaj may have some info on it. The most common treatment is the same as for SFN (Neurontin, Lyrica, etc), since it typically results from SFN with damage to those small unmyelinated fibers. Have you tried the biofreeze? It is OTC and has been known to help with the burning from SFN. |

I have tried the biofreeze, unfortunately it burns that area even more. Also, since I am bodywide the biofreeze isn't much help... but I did try it on the worst areas. |

You should not use it on large areas. And only a thin strip of it otherwise up to four times a day. It does not cure anything - only helps for awhile. Be certain to read the directions.
