to help better then some those med's Drs. are so willing to hand
out. Also pepperment tea,but that's just me. Embarassing monent
at new Rheumy Drs. Friday gum fell right out of my mouth, and almost

Lightbulb I mentioned to my doctor that

the glands at my jaw corners (the parotid glands) were swelling and I was getting dry mouth sometimes. She had me eat something really really sour at least twice a day and it is working. I am doing Jolly Ranchers, and the Sour Jolly's too, esp at work. It seems really dry at work, and talking makes it worse.

The green Jolly ranchers (sour apple) seem to work the best.

My doctor says the glands get sludgy with age, as esp if one take diuretics like I do --even tho those are minimal twice a week. If you don't force the saliva out, it can grow stones....so I want to avoid that for sure.

Anyway a candy RX is something I can live with, but I hope it doesn't mess up my teeth. As I am not much of a candy hound! LOL

I don't have this all the time...the glands seem to swell up and go down unpredictably. But with the sours...they are staying low for now!

I feel like almost always I have a hard candy or gum in my mouth cause if not its like my mouth is so dry even with adequate liquids. The meds some I am concerned about especially to the liver. I don't want to sub one issue for another. As for calcium I know my mom is on meds I think fosamax for that and calcium sup. I'm wondering after my bone density test what they will give me as 8 years ago I had osteopenia. More pills. I like the candy med too.

Default Mrs D

One of the things I use for the dry mouth is the sugar free lemon drop. Really stirs up the ole spit! I've used the Jolly Roger Sours but sometimes my mouth tissues are too tender for the roughness the Jolly Rogers seem to alway have. Sharp edges. But I've found the sugar free lemon drops to work really well.
