I want to post a good update but seem to be having a setback. I have had setbacks before but so far have not relapsed to the state I was during my onset so..... trying not to let it get me down.
I have done 2 new things in the past week and I'm not sure if its one or the other, or possibly nothing that was in my control that has caused a "flare". 1. I reintroduced beans and rices and have been eating them for a week. 2. 3 days ago, I thought I was cool and did some yoga poses that I guess I'm not ready for. My nervous system is all revved and misfiring all over the place. Last night I had an espophagul spasm that still feels like a knot this morning. I have never had this before! It is hard to swallow. I don't know if its the foods or the yoga or that this was going to happen anyway since there is no rhyme or reason for this whole bs thing anyway. I am angry. ![]() I'm going to lose the rice and beans again and see if this calms down. I won't attempt body weight bearing poses again for a while. ![]() On a positive note* the farmers market here is open and the vegetables are glorious ![]() I will report back what happens. |

Some beans (like the kidney beans) have lectins on their surface.
http://www.precisionnutrition.com/all-about-lectins Dr. D'Adamo's book goes into this in detail: http://www.dadamo.com/ I have never been able to tolerate red beans, myself, so I would consider them a trigger for you possibly.

According to Dr. D'Adamo I shouldn't be eating chicken...only turkey or wild fowl. I do know that citrus is a trigger for me... so I stopped all citrus with some improvements in my arthritis. (but not 100%). So I have to take Vit C to replace what I don't get from juice and oranges. Because of my HAE (hereditary angioedema) and malrotation of the GI tract (congenital)I have always had GI disturbances. But the Candida Cleanse I did recently has been very helpful. I can only take CurcuBrain in pulses with rests because everyday for a while will set off my GI thing. But the CurcuBrain is working nicely too even with the rests. I am interested in the lectins... these peptide markers on food, seem likely culprits in food intolerances. I can eat black beans in moderation (not every day) but I have never been able to tolerate those kidney red beans! Whether it is the lectins or something else going on, I just don't know. I just avoid things that set me off. ![]() I did enjoy that link you put up the other day, about low carb eating... 25grams a day is really difficult to maintain, though. ![]()

I read the book a long time ago as well. Wasn't sure what to make of it.
I've never noticed any food sensitivities, but I'm really trying to pay more attention to what I'm doing/eating good days, bad days-wise. The only thing I know for sure right now is I definitely do better when it's warm. We're in a cold snap right now, and the difference is amazing. Yes, the 20g - 25g I see recommended so often is not terribly realistic for me on a daily basis. I'm probably near that on some days, but nowhere close on others. I think my doctor's recommendation of 60 g/day is more realistic, and I'm doing a lot more of "eating to my meter" testing right now. I've been pleasantly surprised how little some carbs are raising my blood sugar, so my carb consumption is creeping up. |
