Default Hard heartbeat

Does anybody else have a very strong heartbeat? Mine is so strong it bounces my body. I can figure out if my body is always pulsing to my heartbeat or if all my nerves in my whole body all pulsate and throb . Is there anything wrong with having a strong heartbeat with a slightly elevated heartbeat all the time?

Heart A Matter of the Heart

Hi Canagirl,

Sounds uncomfortable!

I don't know the cause of your symptoms.
I am concerned.

Sometimes, when we go through a lot of unexplained illness, new symptoms and pain/discomfort, we can also become anxious. Co-occurring anxiety is understandable and quite "normal." I have become anxious at times, especially at the beginning of my symptoms, many years ago now. I have, with time, had less anxiety.

I cannot be sure your symptoms are anxiety, or anxiety alone.
I have found this self-test on the sister site psychcentral.com.
Maybe see if you feel anxiety may explain some of your symptoms?

http://psychcentral.com/quizzes/anxiety.htm

Also, stay hydrated. The heart has to pump harder when blood volume is low due to dehydration.

How elevated is your heartbeat?

Please also mention these symptoms to your doctor.

I have the same thing. My pulse feels like its banging through my whole body. If I am sitting reading a book, the book visibly shakes along with rhythm. I am used to it. Don't know what the problem there is. Thinking everything is working extra hard to function from whatever is attacking the nerves. It makes sense since it is so hard for me to get my limbs to do the things that used to be so easy. Everything is so hard. Just putting the dishes away makes my heart beat faster and my muscles to fatigue like I am in the middle of a workout lifting 20 pound weights. Hate this.

Hi Canagirl and Healthgirl,

Please know it's not my intention to minimize your experiences and concerns.

I was trying to consider so possible co-occurring factors to the symptoms reported.

If hearts are affected by neuropathy, please see a cardiologist for a complete evaluation.

Thanks dejavue. I know I have anxiety now. Quite badly in fact. Sometimes that makes me crazier because I don't know if I'm experiencing a non stop anxiety symptom or sfn symptom. My anxiety is nonstop. I've tried numerous therapists, to no avail. I've tried ciprolex which didnt help and an made me clench my jaw horribly. Don't know what to do about it. The worst is when I wake up a million times in the middle of the night: I think ( can't be sure) that anxiety fuels my sfn at this point and it ravages me.

Thans DejaVu,
I have autonomic dysfunction so that explains why my body can't keep up with things. My blood pressure is very low and I have to move slowly or things go black and I get dizzy.
I had my heart checked 2 years ago when the numbness, palpitations, buzzing, and vertigo was happening. I wore a halter monitor and they just found very low bp and APC. So I increased my magnesium and salt and thought I was fine (denial) till the insane nerve pain started. Funny looking back... I was still in denial and thought it was because I did too many dead lifts and it all had an explanation and must be so simple. Little did I know.

Hi Canagirl,

I had quite a strong heartbeat the past 2 months, which made my body pulsate with it, when my anxiety was higher than normal. Even my vision pulsates with it, I have a vestibular disorders which complements this.

Somehow I managed to just let all symptoms happen and forget about anxiety, I stopped googling for non-existing answers, just keep your mind busy with other stuff (or at least try to!).

I feel much better now since calming down over the past weeks, even though things are evolving... Anxiety is a very very bad condition, which you should absolutely not ignore trying to solve. At first I didn't thought I would ever get rid of it, but it is all about changing your mindset and than let things resolve slowly and win yourself back, trying to separate your symptoms from your mind. I'm just slightly depressed now, which makes my days a lot more comfortable

Hope I'm making some sense here --- Wanted to say that your heartbeat can definitely be linked with anxiety, in my experience it was and it calmed down over a long period of resolving my anxiety.

Default Anxiety/Panic Self-Perpetuating

Hi Canagirl,

I do understand and am glad you can openly share about anxiety.
I feel you have lots of reasons to feel anxious!

My family suffers from anxiety/panic.
Upon experiencing intensive symptoms, which were unexplained at the time, along with the overall frustrations of dealing with the red tape with both medical groups and insurances, I had become very overwhelmed and full of anxiety.

Anxiety and/or panic are very stressful and stress can exacerbate any medical condition. Anxiety/panic can also feed more anxiety/panic, and further stress.
This can become self-perpetuating.

It's important to get the anxiety under control.
I have the same reaction to the med you have mentioned.
There are other meds, targeted more directly at anxiety/panic.
(Some of them are lorazepam, clonazepam, etc.)
There are also cognitive-behavioral options for learning to decrease anxiety.

In cases where people have serious anxiety/panic disorders, a therapist often cannot assist without first calming the anxiety through adequate treatment.

Some primary care physicians will prescribe for anxiety/panic.
If possible, you may want to see a psychiatrist for diagnosis and for treatment options. A psychopharmacologist would be great, if possible.

There are also examples of breathing exercises and/or visualizations which often help some people with lowering anxiety. Many of these options are available via a search online. You will find articles and youtubes, etc.
These are often not enough of an intervention, as the sole intervention, with serious anxiety/panic conditions. However, these approaches can often help.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Healthgirl,

I am sorry you have to deal with this.
It takes a strength to adjust to living with these types of conditions.
I am glad you are here, sharing with all of us!

I sort of get this too. I used to get palpitations that were unsettling. My heart rate would elevate over 100 bpm for no reason when I was sitting. These symptoms aren't as bad now. I still have been having intermittent problems with breathing, especially at night. It's like there are bricks on my chest and I can't get enough oxygen in. Last night was pretty killer. I think I finally fell asleep around 1 am. Makes for a long, tired work day, that's for sure.

I just figure it's all part of this disease. I don't even bother telling any doctors because I don't want any meds or want them to think that I have an anxiety problem.
