Question I have some questions on vitamins for pn

Well, my neuro told me today that I don't have large fiber nerve damage. He said that it may be small fiber nerve damage. He said that it's not cerebral/stroke related as well. Anyway, he also told me to take b1 100 mg thiamine and b12 500 mcg. When it comes to benfothiamine vs thiamine, methylcobalamin b12 vs cyn b12, R lipoic acid stabilized vs non- non-stabilized, which forms are better to take? The nerve damage may have come from cocaine use.

Stabilized R lipoic is better absorbed. This was actually measured in volunteers. 100mg a day is usually enough.

I'd take at least 1000mcg orally as a study showed only 13mcg gets absorbed from this amount into the blood. I'd use the methylcobalamin as it is activated, and inexpensive. People with the MTHFR mutation cannot methylate B12 or folic acid properly.
So since the money is about the same, get the best there is...
methyl form.

Take the B12 on an empty stomach also for best absorption.
It doesn't matter with the Stablized R-lipoic as that is very soluble and quickly absorbed. Some people report heartburn with this supplement, so a little food might help with it if you are sensitive that way.

Thank you, but what about benfothiamine vs thiamine?
