Default O/T Coffee?

I have decided to take up decaf coffee. I have always been unable to tolerate t0o much coffee, and I only have 1 cup of weak instant coffee in the morning.

I then drink 2-3 cups of green or black tea, throughout the day,and 1 cup of chammomile tea before bed.

Since I like the taste of coffee, but not the strong caffiene jolt, I thought I'd give decaf a go.

Even after a cup of decaf, I feel a bit of a jolt. I can tell because my appetite goes away altogether.

I was wondering if decaf coffee is really caffiene free? If it is what could cause the appetite supression and mild jolt of energy?

Why don't you go to the health foods store and buy what they call a coffee substitute?. I can't recall the name. It's just like instant coffee and it tastes the same. It has no caffeine. I used to drink it all the time. But then they opened a Dunkin Donuts around the corner. I'm hooked. Just one cup in the morning but it's lovely.

Default Thanks Mel

I may end up having to do this. I called Nestle today regarding the decaf coffee I drink Nescafe. They have not returned my call as yet, so the verdict is still out on weather decaf coffee is truly caffeine free.

Default I believe--

--at least here in the US, companies are allowed to label their coffees "caffeine free" if certain processing is used to remove 97% or more of the caffeine in a standard measurement. Of course, that may still leave a bit left over, and if one is more sensitive to it than most, one may still notice a jolting effect (though presumably not as strong as with a regular cup!).

In the program I was in they said decaf had small amounts left. Look at other things too in your diet you may not think like tea or even hot chocolate. Good luck. I wish I could give up caffeine but the hang over right now is not on my list and I get huge ones.Maybe a long term goal.

Many years ago I talked with a coffee broker about de-caf coffee and he told me never buy the junk on the shelf, they chemically extract the caffiene and it truly isn't caf-free. He said only buy buy the coffee that says water-extracted caffiene free, which is usually done by Tullys, Seattle's Best or any other smaller coffee retailer.
Just sharing this b/c God knows we don't need more chemicals in our bodies.

Decaf *does* have caffeine in it. Just not very much. I have noticed it seems more acidic than regular coffee too. The best tasting decaf I've found is the Sam's Choice Decaf at Wal Mart.
