I have to start off by saying how I truly understand what so many are going through.
For a few years I was suffering with nerve pain, had undergone 3 surgeries (both hands and nerve relocation on the left arm). It was not until I went for an MRI for spurs in my spine (Inwards) and waiting on surgery that the Neurologist said something wrong. I went for 2 EMG's and they confirmed Per Polyneuropathy (Lucky me is unknown cause). All they say is "nothing we can do" or "prescribe more pain meds". They have tried me on several meds .. lyrica, gabapentamine etc etc and it seems I have a rare disorder that I cannot take any of these meds without having major reactions. Are my symptoms the same as some of you folks have. No feeling on 3 of my toes on both feet. Continuous on and off nerve pains in the feet, legs, calves. Falling over on my left side. Electric shocks through the arms and chest. Dizziness a lot. Pains in the head in 3 places (feels like being stabbed). When I hold anything longer than 2 minutes hand and arm up the elbow goes completely numb. and 11 months ago one morning I woke up to a really nice belch. Now I get it from the time I wake up till bed time. I have a really hard time trying to sleep at night due to pain. In the past 3 weeks I am having a harder time urinating (have to force). Doctor only says nothing they can do. Climbing stairs forget it. Can anyone please let me know if anything helps. I am sick of living like this. Thanks for any help I can get |

Can you tell more about the hand/arm pain , symptoms & surgeries? Was there a name for those - Carpal tunnel or Ulnar /Cubital tunnel or something else?? Could it have been related to some sort of repetitive strain ? If so please explore our TOS forum sticky threads for more info- (TOS is not well known by most MDs) Thoracic outlet syndrome - TOS for short. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread84.html http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread125577.html http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum24.html Have you had any physical therapy at all to see if it helps or not?

Hi and thanks for replying.
Carpel tunnel on both hands. Left elbow Nerve relocation (carpel surgery did not work). The feelings in my right hand is mostly numbness and lack of feeling(cannot feel heat properly). When grasping or holding it goes 100% numb - no feeling at all. Neuro said it was part of my PN. They said I have 3 different sets of nerves affected. Both legs I cannot feel the back of them from the heel to upper legs. I have had this a long time but it was never diagnosed by anyone. Now I have 3 doctors all agreeing and saying nothing they can do. Been scheduled for another EMG on Nov 22 and waiting for an appointment for another MRI for spinal surgery. Due to the pain and lack of feeling and lessening ability to walk normally, I lost my job in March. They said my belch, electric shocks in the arms and chest are also part of it. It just seems so extreme. |

Do you have any kind of upper back , neck or shoulder pain, tight or sore muscles in those areas?
oh and [went for an MRI for spurs in my spine (Inwards) and waiting on surgery that the Neurologist said something wrong. ] What level of spine are the spurs at? Cervical spine/ neck, Thoracic spine - middle, Lumbar - low back? * C spine 4/5/6/7 usually may affect arms/hands.. But TOS can too, some will get what is called double crush or even triple crush- meaning the cause/impingement is up in the neck/chest area - but it shows as ulnar or carpal tunnel.. In the past some TOS members had carpal & cubital surgery only to later find out with still ongoing pain.... and finally seeing a TOS specialist doctor, that is was TOS all along and those past surgeries may not have been needed. For spine info -- Usually they will say C 4/5 or L 3/4 - so you know what & where of the vertebra they are talking about... If considering spinal surgery check out our spinal forum to learn more. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum22.html some spine & posture info- http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/album.php?albumid=422

For the neck I have 3 ingrown spurs Right side C2/3 C3/4 Left side C 4/5. This is causing symptoms to my neck, right shoulder and upper arm. Neuro said the lower portion of arm and hand is PN. They are doing another MRI to confirm if surgery is needed yet.
They did a foot to foot straight line test and my legs started shaking and I fell down. Eyes closed test and I fell to the left. They said I have Severe Idiopathic Peripheral Polyneuropathy affecting 3 different nerve groups. All I know is every day is hard and I need help to understand what is going on, if there is ever something to ease the symptoms and help for the pain. |
