We are on the road of doing a work up for Knee Peroneal Nerve. Back MRI is coming, 2nd EMG this thurs and starting neurotin tonight. The 1st EMG stated I had some peroneal weakness. The Neurosurgeon stated they rarely do decompression surgery and its mostly conservative method. Which is fine but what if the Meds don't help in 3-4 months?

I would love to hear your stories, suggestions and words of encouragement because frankly I'm scared!

History-Leg pain started 10 yrs ago. Controlled with motrin. Jan/Feb 2015 shoveled snow and nerve flared REALLY bad. With Mortin it settled down. Mar 2015 my son and I had a jumping contest and I hurt my knee and the peroneal nerve has not stopped hurting. April-Aug- physical therapy for knee and Volteran. Aug 2015 had knee surgery for fat pad trim. Oct-2015 sharp, stabbing, throbbing pain down shin and into foot. Im unable to bare weight on it. I do not have drop foot.

I have a suggestion for you. I have that front shin pain too sometimes going down into my toes. It happens mostly at night.
I also have a history of knee pain and swelling there, but it is quiet now.

There is a new OTC cream called Aspercreme/ Lidocaine.

This is just a wonderful new product, and when I rub it into my shin below the knee, down to the ankle (only a little bit is necessary), it numbs the problem down in minutes.

Start with it and it may give you alot of relief. You can progress to supplements, if this fails.

Another lotion that helps too is Morton Epsom lotion. It provides needed magnesium to reduce pain and improve circulation, and relax muscle tension and tightness.

Many of us here use this with great success. Just a little bit per application covers a good area. A nickle sized dollop on your lower knee, down the shin to the ankle and top of foot nightly will do wonders.
