Dextromethorphan cannot be used with antidepressants.
But other than that it may help with pain. I also found an interesting paper on my phone...let me see...if I can find it now. http://www.medicaldaily.com/cough-me...release-326352 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24702319 It has been tried for post surgical pain in the '90's with little success. The last time I had a terrible bronchitis was over 5 yrs ago...and I used a product with DM in it to stop the tiring coughing. It worked on my foot pain very well at about 80mg every 24 hrs. (I took the cough product in divided doses over several days. I posted about it here in fact. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...xtromethorphan We had a member here who tried DM for his feet also. But it didn't work. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...xtromethorphan I think the effects may be highly subjective. No harm in trying, but don't use it if you take Cymbalta or other SSRI or TCA antidepressants.

Back in 1999 when I was given the Fibro dx (still wonder about that) the endo turned FM specialist was pushing guaifenesen on his patients for FM. this is in mucinex and robitussin...I never bought into it. I never had horrid FM pain, but having the label I guess I thought I needed something. OA is my worst enemy and all other issues I've worked on and continue to.

I have tried this for nerve pain and felt it did help "some" though I don't like the way I feel after taking cough syrup. We also have a poster on the CRPS forum who started Nuedexta (dextro with quinine added to help metabolize the dextro so less of it can be taken). That member had really good results with the combo med.

Its interesting that they have articles on it promoting insulin resistance. They should clarify finding a source of DM that is not set in a high sugar/syrup base which most of them seem to be. Pill form would seem to be preferable. The fact that it promotes insulin resistance and reduction in neuropathic pain would make perfect sense. I wonder if people who's neuro pain is related to blood sugar/glucose intolerance would be the ones who benefit from this experimental technique.
In the end it is a drug. So, the long term effects of that would worry me. Maybe it's something that would work best for people who get flare ups (sporadic) as opposed to chronic (everyday) pain? If it actually works though? It would still be better than the options out there like Gabapentin and Lyrica that either dont work or kinda/maybe sort of work.
