Dear Mrs. D.:
A friend was unfortunately just diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer, and will be starting on Chemo shortly. I remember reading here that there are various recommended supplements that can be taken in conjunction with the chemo to help mitigate the associated neuropathy. Would you please post here the specific items, including the exact recommended brand and dosing information. Thank you very much! David |

What an awesome friend you are !
My severe SFN is a result of the taxol/carbo chemo I received for uterine cancer 3 years ago. Along with being pre-diabetic. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend but so glad she has such a supportive friend in you. I had never heard of neuropathy prior to having it and wish I had known and used the supplements that might have stopped or at least reduced the SFN damage. Take care and please keep us posted on your friend. Debi from Georgia |

Just type in "chemo" to our search engine on page 1.
As time passes, studies on this topic do become outdated information, so it is difficult to find definitive advice. You might also Google the topic.... to find more. Some doctors have their own ideas about chemo and PN... some won't let patients take anything, as some nutrients feed cancers. As far as breast cancer and metastasis, using flax oil and cottage cheese, appears frequently for breast cancer patients, as helping prevent spreading. When my son in law was going thru chemo, many were suggesting alternatives for him and I never got to him on the grape seed ex, who knows if it would have helped him. He didn't make it after 6 months of treatment. When I started on this antioxidant back in 1995, the main reason was we were told "it may prevent cancer(s).. |

I am sorry to hear about your friend and hope the chemotherapy will help her and with as little as possible side effects.
When I got chemotherapy for Lymphoma I consulted an internist who manage the integrative clinic at the hospital. He recommended to stop all supplementation during the chemotherapy because it might reduce the chemotherapy’s effectiveness. When the chemotherapy was over he recommended on many supp. to reduce the risks of recurrence and of long term side effects from the treatments. So before taking any supplementation please consult a doctors who knows her treatment protocol. I highly recommend the book Anticancer by David Servan Schreiber http://www.anticancerbook.com/ .He was a researcher and a professor of psychiatry and neurology, and after he was diagnosed with Cancer he searched for alternative methods that can improve the effectiveness of the conventional treatments. This book was published about a year after I finished the treatment and it contains a lot of information that I wish that I had earlier. |

One of the most impactful things to look into would be a ketogenic diet. It is used in conjunction with the standard of care for cancer (chemo, radiation, surgery, etc.). I work in clinical research and almost exclusively write on cancer trials. Very few individuals are taking or are allowed to take supplements.
Dr Colin Champ is board certified radiation oncologist at the University of Pittsburgh. He has done a lot of research in area of nutrition (keto diets) and cancer. You can find him on You Tube and on several iTunes podcasts. Here is one of his talks: https://youtu.be/ot96y5-D_K0
