I happen to agree with your philosophy. An addiction is just a bad habit taken to a higher level. And boy do some people have higher levels.

Just finished watching American Inventor. Didn't think they would show it because we just had a big explosion in NYC and 10,000 people had to be evacuated. Everybody thought it was a 911 all over again, but the mayor just announced that it was a massive steam pipe eruption.

Don't know if anybody watches American Inventor but there are two guys who just became finalist and if their product gets invented, I'd be the first one on line.

They devised something called Wrap-away (I believe it's called).

It's a gadget that holds all the wax paper, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, paper towels, and you put it in a drawer, and you open the drawer and you just pull out the plastic wrap, wax paper, etc.

I looked at the tv and shouted "where do I get one?". Ever try to tear a piece of plastic wrap. Gets all tangled. Man, could I use one of these inventions. I hope the guys win.

Hi, Mel. I think we have to learn to love our kids, but with some detachment, so we can keep our sanity, like you said. Nobody says we have to like them. Ha. At least we are not alone. The Bible is full of good parents who had bad or disappointing kids. So it has been a big problem since time eternal. And I saw that invention the first time it was presented. It does look good!

Well, I have learned to keep my sanity by not being a co-dependant. I've been to enough NAMI (National Association for the Mentally Ill) meetings to last me a lifetime. I've been to Asperger Support groups. I've been to Gamanon meetings.

I have done all I can do. Now I do for ME!!! No more guilt. No more "but what if I did this differently". We make choices, our kids make choices. Now I'm not talking about people with severe psychiatric disorders, like Schitzophrenia, or Schitzo-affective disorder (try saying that one 3 times fast). Just like I had to learn all about Neuropathy when Alan was diagnosed and I came on these boards and I learned. I also learned about personality disorders, psychological disorders, etc.

But the most relevant thing I learned is that (in most cases) a person who makes a bad choice, must be made accountable for that bad choice. Otherwise, how would they learn?? If a kid acts up in school and there are no repercussion, well how on earth is that kid going to learn what not to do??

This morning, I read an article in the paper about Wynona Ryder, the actress who was arrested for shoplifting some time ago. Would you like to know what she said about her shoplifting experience"??

She said "Oh, I have no bad feelings about what I did, I mean, I didn't hurt anyone". "If I hurt someone physically, then of course I would feel bad, but I didn't hurt anyone".

See, that kind of thinking makes me want to bop her on her head and if she got that way of thinking from her parents, I'd like to bop them on the head too.

Anyway, glad you liked the gadget.

I cannot wait to buy one (that is if they ever invent it).

I had to wrap up my veggie burgers last night. I bought 3 lbs of Ground Turkey for the nice price of $5.99. I made 7 patties and I had to pull that stupid plastic wrap for each one. Drove me nuts. All I kept saying to myself was "if ony I had that Wrap-away".

At last!!! I wondered if this thread would ever get back to where Bob started it.

It seems to me that too many threads are getting HIGHJACKED these days and it must be very frustrating for those people who have opened a thread in the hope of getting answers to their often serious PN or associated problems to find that when they go to see what advice has been offered all they see is “coffee morning chit chat”.


I sometimes search in vain for a medical comment relating to the originator’s question. Please, please, please will these people if they wish to have chat, either go to the chat forum or PM or email each other. This is supposed to be a serious forum for the sufferers of peripheral neuropathy. It really should be kept that way, people are in pain here. I am not suggesting for one moment that the culprits do not have a serious problem or problems of their own, just that they stick to those problems when on this forum.

If an off topic subject warrants a thread on its own then fair enough but please keep our wonderful PN forum on the straight and narrow.
