Default Magnesium cream

Hi all,

I'm looking for a magnesium cream, one that's as pure and natural as possible. I'd like to take higher doses, but I can't stomach too much. It seems I'm too sensitive even to 90 mg of magnesium glycinate. I take Epsom Salt soaks now and then but I can't always take soaks and need a more efficient method. Any recommendations? Is cream effective for absorption? I imagine so.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the topicals do get absorbed, but that depends on the vehicle delivering it.

Now that we know that Morton's lotion is discontinued, I have had to resort to recommending the first really good one...Kirkman. This was first developed for the autism community for children, and it has a dosing scoop included, for 100mg doses.

http://www.kirkmangroup.com/magnesiu...3-gm-4-oz.html

This is more expensive than epsom salt soaks, or the Morton's.
But it has a long track record of use as well. It is on Amazon and iherb.com
http://www.iherb.com/Kirkman-Labs-Ma...oz-113-g/38169

90 mg of magnesium glycinate really is a low dose. Do you take it with food?

Have you tried almonds? 3 oz. of unsalted almonds have 270mg of magnesium.

I have GI angioedema...so I am very sensitive to any oral magnesium product too.

Thank you for this information. I took another 90 mg last night and soaked in a cup of the Epsom salt. The D woke me up in the middle of the night, but I wasn't wired and didn't stay up but instead fell back asleep. So my guess is that the insomnia from the D is due to it really using up my magnesium. So so far so good. But it has only been a few nights.

Anyway, I'm wondering what you think of this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=sr_1_3&sr=8-3. The two you linked too seem quite good and with good reputations, but they have parabens and I try to avoid those. They seem to have a few more things that I don't like either. I mean, I use a lotion with paraben now and then, but I try to avoid it and not use it regularly. The one I linked to is also cheaper. I also found the Morton's on Amazon, so I guess they still have more stock, but that's pretty chemical heavy and quite pricey, at least on Amazon. There seems to be a second one from Kirkman's, one that's a few dollars cheaper: http://www.amazon.com/Kirkman-Labs-M...+sulfate+cream. Is this a different one? They both seem to have the same ingredients.

I actually do eat quite a few almonds, but clearly that's not sufficient. I am also going to be cutting them out again in the next week for gut issues. Nuts (and seeds) contain antinutrients, notably phytic acid, which hinder absorption of nutrients, so I'm not surprised. When I take the supplements, I feel it right away. I like your topical idea, since your vitamin D suggestion has worked out royally. I can really get into this transdermal, but I'm just taking in so many more ingredients and chemicals than I would need to orally. But if I can't tolerate it, like you, then there's nothing I can do about that, and topicals it is. Plus, they clearly start to work much more quickly.

Thanks again!

EDIT: It's actually not cheaper. I did the calculations and one gets much more magnesium per gram from the Kirkman's, over 11000 mg per bottle, whereas you get under 5000 in the Ancient Minerals one. Still, a quick look seems to show more natural ingredients for the latter.

The reason the Mortons Epsom lotion is so pricey now on Amazon is because it's been discontinued and they are taking unfair advantage of people who depend on it.

The one you are looking at looks good to me. If you try it please let us know if it works for you

David, you are just going to have to try that Ancient minerals one to see your response. Alot has to do with the carriers in the lotions/creams...to carry the magnesium thru the skin.

Of course. Why would we expect anything less?! Sad...

I'll definitely let you know, Pinky.

And there's always this option, which seems simple enough:

Hi Baba,

Not yet, as I just came across it today. I haven't decided whether I'm going to buy the Ancient Minerals one, I like to above, or make this one myself. Seems easy and very healthy. I may do both. I'll definitely let you know if I make it, and please let me know, if you try it. I like the idea of making it from scratch with such simple and safe ingredients.

Wishing you well!

Default Life-flo Pure Magnesium Oil

I can't get my hands on the Ancient Minerals one just yet, but plan to try their lotion. Yesterday I purchased this one from a local shop: http://www.amazon.com/Life-flo-Pure-...+magnesium+oil

I used it last night and it works like a charm, or it seems. One night is really not enough to judge, but I did sleep quite well and was relaxed and not wired from the D3.

I sprayed it on all over my feet and legs, so generously, and then rubbed it in. This was about 15-20 minutes before showering. It leaves a sort of greasy film on the body, which is why I washed it off. Thankfully I had no burning/skin reaction as some reviewers on Amazon report. I was worried about that.
