It can take a few weeks to respond to gabapentin. Doctors like to start with a small dose and sometimes it takes abig dose to notice relief. You can take up to 3600 mg a day.

Gabapentin gave me instant, but not complete, relief, and I had to increase the dosage to get complete relief.
I take 2400 mg/day for both profound Peripheral Neuropathy and Small Fiber Neuropathy. It also seems to take away pain from my osteoarthritis, which is a blessing. I could not stand the pain of small fiber neuropathy, it feels like trying to live in a cage of stinging, burning, stabbing, itching skin.. The minutes just drag by, because the pain slows everything down to a crawl. It's always NOW NOW NOW in pain. The minute I went back on gabapentin (I stopped, slowly, to test whether is was causing symptoms of Myoclonus in me, and it wasn't) the agony went away. I was so overjoyed. I pray it keeps working for me. It is a blessing in my life. Hugs, ElaineD |
