I've had neuropathy for several years and have been on Gabapentin. Because I am now in the 'donut hole' with my insurance (for about 4 months) I haven't taken the Gaba because of cost. Since I have been off the med, I find that I am not steady on my feet and feel like the bottom of my feet are not even. I also have a fear of falling. And I walk slow, almost with a 'shuffle'. Could this have anything to do with not taking the Gaba?

We each have our own way of dealing with this dreaded disease, and for now I choose to work on my eating habits and supplement regime. There is a wealth of information right here as far as supplements, vitamins, topical creams, and nutrition. I've followed through on all of them, and I believe it has helped me. I wish you well. ![]()

Hi dimples,
I take 3500 mg of Gabapentin daily. It almost stops the 'skin on fire' feeling of my Small Fiber Neuropathy. However, I still have a sense that the bottoms of my feet are 'puffy', and with Profound Peripheral Neuropathy I can only walk with braces and a rollator for distances. We are all very different, dimples. I get my Gabapentin from a mail order pharmacy, CareMark, through my Plan D Drug Coverage with Silver Script. It has been several years since I experienced the donut hole! Regards, ElaineD |

For me YES. First diagnosed with GBS then after a relapse re-diagnosed with CIDP. I feel like I have dowel running from my heel to the toes. Need cane(s) for balance or sometimes a walker. Also tingling and numbness up to the calf. Cannot comment on efficacy of Gabapentin as I have been on IVIg since the beginning (every two months). keeps me stable (more or less) at least. Similar feelings in hands but not as bad. Still woodcarving is now out of the question. Even difficult to manage my camera. |
