Default New query - alcohol

Hi everyone,

Sorry to ask this, I am wondering if anyone has had suspected small fibre neuropathy in early clinical stage, currently both big toe as are exhibiting the typical symptoms of reduced sensation and pain, that may have been caused by alcohol consumption. I am desperately hoping my abstinence might see it at least halt, or better, resolve or improve. Is this possible? I enjoyed a bottle of winr in the evenings with my wife, ok I had more than her, but I feel like I’m being badly punished. Also I’m really worried about progression. It’s alteady impacting my life but it seems there may be a way to go,

Hi kmb sorefeet

Welcome to NeuroTalk .

You might like to have a look at this thread https://www.neurotalk.org/alcoholism...pathy-2-a.html.

It discusses the role of alcohol abuse in PN. You are most welcome to contribute to it . Its earlier version has been closed because it got too big though you can still read it.

Best wishes.

Alcohol induced neuropathy is the result of the consumption of LARGE amounts of alcohol. The amounts that indicate alcoholism. Sharing a bottle of wine with your wife, surely doesn't fall into that category.

Thanks Elaine, I agree. We did that many evenings but its quite common I think. So far there is no reason for my neuropathy which is likely small fibre. There seems to be a number of idiopathic cases though. Thanks again for your reply.
