Lightbulb Podiatrist

I just wanted to mention here about my helpful experience with a Podiatrist. Cost is somewhat prohibitive for me as it's not totally covered with my healthcare. Having said that, it hasn't actually helped my neuropathy as much as it's helped the muscles and tendons in my feet and especially my toes. They had started taking on a life of their own and my feet were changing shape and going in the wrong direction due to the pain I was experiencing from the neuropathy. Basically I couldn't walk properly most days and didn't want to end up with Charcot foot.

First I got insoles to suit my changed feet so that they could be supported properly to help me not hurt so much. It also helped a lot with my balance.

Secondly he gave me specific exercises involving my toes and feet and calves and I do them 2ce a day and they've definitely been helpful. At first I couldn't even do the balance on one leg exercise but most days I can. (I also still have a vertigo problem for many years long before the cancer treatment caused my neuropathy).

One exercise I just cannot do is with my feet on the ground and me in a sitting position I'm supposed to rest my toes on the ground and raise my large toe. Visa versa with the big toe on the ground to raise the little toes all at once. Can't do it! Brain does not compute. Tried and tried but they don't want to move independently. I even tried doing the excercises in my foot bowl with warm water and magnesium. Still didn't work.

So, if your doctor ever suggests a podiatrist referral, take it. As I said it's not changed my neuropathy but it certainly has helped me with balance which is so important and also with fixing the shape of my feet slowly but surely back to where they should be.

I know I'm in a different country and having a podiatrist referral for PN might be quite common where you live, but it's certainly not here in my situation. It's been years and no one ever referred me on. Podiatrists here are not doctors btw. I wonder if they're doctors elsewhere.
