Wow, it's been a week and he walks like a champ with this shoe boot thing.
He went to see his new guy this morning. We've been using the regranex for one week, wrapping him up, (covering the psoriasis lesions on his calf because the boot irritates them). Well, he goes there this morning, the doctor did a little debriding (much less then he has had before), then the doctor says "wow, your ulcer is healing very nicely, looks good. So this is what I want you to do from now until next week when you come back". Tell Melody to put bacitracin (and he gave him little packets), starting tomorrow morning. Then on Sunday, go back to the Regranex, because your ulcer is healing." "Then, when you come back next Wednesday, if all looks good, we'll have you do one hour a day with your regular shoes, and then we'll see about two hours a day after that". Alan explained the whole thing to me, I couldn't go with him because he left at 7 a.m. and I am not human until at least 9 a.m. (lol). Alan also brought his new orthotics (just made for him) together with his orthopedic shoes, and showed them to the doctor. He said 'these look terrific, but we won't know how you'll do with them, until you start the one hour thing'. Perhaps the orthotics might need to be modified a bit. We won't know until he uses them. So far, so good. Alan is healing. He's walking very good with the Cam Walker. Way better than the off loading shoe. We should have done this last year. Oh well. At least we did it. Now all my bills are about bandages, paper tapes and gauze pads. lol Melody

Hi Sue:
Yeah, I know it's hard to say no. But sometimes we just have to take care of our own selves and then, when we are better, we can again take care of others. You sound like a very sweet caring person. I hope Bob is okay and I wish you both warm wishes. Melody

HI Mel and Alan!
I'm SO glad Alan is doing SO much better with the new boot thing! and that his sore foot is healing. What a relief huh?? Sue, I agree with Melody, you have to take care of yourself first before you can even think of taking care of anyone else! Get well soon girl.......thinking of you!

Melody my mom swears by orthotics though she is under not near the issues of your husband every little bit may help. I hope to get them when at a better point. You guys are lucky to have each other. It must be hard too though when both are in pain and struggling. I wish you had someone to take care of you. You need some tender love and care. Someone to make you muffins too. I always think of you when I go to Dunkin with my mom.
Shiney sue I understand and hear your feelings but like Melody says we can't help others if were struggling. I'm sure he knows how you wish you could and how you love him. A person can only do so much when under this. I would have to do the same. I can barely take care of me. I know for me like with my mom doing so much and I feel bad I send her cards or flowers it just makes me feel better. So maybe you can do something like that. It can lift both spirits. |

Daniella:
I just responded to you (on another thread) about my friend who is battling anorexia. I think it's very nice that you send cards. It's a thoughtful thing to do. You go out of your way to write and send the card. I do hope people are appreciative of what you do. I have noticed that young people today do not take the time to stop, smell the roses and be nice to each other. It's a faster paced world (with the computer, ipods, cell phones, text messaging etc.). People need to slow down and look around, look up at the sun and say to themselves. "Okay, I got up today, maybe I'll have a better pain day". I know that I have to get up a bit slower, I have my lidoderm patches to put on my back (when my scoliois drives me nuts). But I also know that when it's 100 degrees outside with no humidity, (very rare but it does happen), that I can put on my walking shoes, put on my IPOD and listen to my disco music and go walking for miles. Everybody is croaking outside but I'm in no pain. I remember to bring my water with me and re-hydrate. God, I wished I lived in the desert. Mel

Hey Sue! We're getting tons of rain down here in Houston. I'm ready for that tropical storm to move out! Are you getting rain there? At least we didn't get heavy wind, I was worried about that!
