Default Kmeb--

--I think it's time to get the press involved in this--which is often my response when such miscarriages of justice and obvious "letter of the law" idiocies are involved; there's nothing like public televised embarassment to get authorities to behave better.

Do you know, or does anyone who lives around SoCal know, of appropriate stations/reporters/journalists who might be contactable? Some ambitious individual must be looking for a David vs. Goliath angle to help advance his/her career. (Yes, I look at this in a mercenary way, but that's why we have "five estates"--through pursuing their own interests, they provide checks and balances on each other.)

They know they cannot bring a court case against Mayo. No jury will believe their hired hands against the Mayo Clinic chart. It's a very strong negotiating point.

So, if you can make the trip there, and need to establish the diagnosis, it may well be worth it.
What would be the best way to get in with the Mayo Clinic? Do you have to have a referral? Or can you just call the office of one of the specialists and see if they are taking new patients?

Right now, I am without a rheumatologist or a neurologist because I moved from Denver to Sioux Falls. After having the rotten luck of going to three rheumatologists in a row in Sioux Falls who don't believe in the existence of sero-negative Sjogren's, I think the Mayo Clinic would be the next logical choice. My husband has even said he would take me there as I am unable to drive that far.

I agree the best strategy with LTD companies is to swamp them with documentation of your disabling conditions done by the most reputable docs you can line up. If you do end up hashing things out before a judge, the LTD company is gonna look pretty stupid claiming you can work if the Mayo Clinic says you can't (or shouldn't). Whatever you do, don't give up, because that's exactly what the insurance company is hoping you'll do.

Default I think that Glenn is right

Kmeb,
I started looking and found these news stations in southern Calif.

www.KABC7.com
www.KTLA.com
www.SCPR.org
www.KNX1070.com
http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/list_o...tions_in_calif

There are many many more. I'd start gathering your ammunition to give to a reporter who is hot on "big insurance companies playing these mind games" and "doctors who get kickbacks from denying payment to sick individuals" when they are too helpless to help themselves.

You are not helpless. You have a mind.

Hi Hon.

I can't imagine being in your position where everybody seems to be working against you and doctors are expecting you to thank them etc.

My goodness. I think I might even report him to the medical board.

How dare these people treat you like this?

I hope the press learns about this and someone does an article on you.

That would have everybody hopping to get in your good graces.

Mel

Maybe you should wait until they actually do a denial before you sic the press, Shiney Sue and the rest of us on them. It might be a stretch to hope they will continue paying, but it sounds like you have some supportive docs on your side and an attorney who sounds ready to go...

Meanwhile that cat looks really mad because he or she is wet...

Come on girl. Hang on...

That doctor has some serious psychological issues...what a degrading S O B.
The fact that he put two different amount of hours to work on the same report and is prescribing you IVIG, will show what an incompetent jackass he is. I dont blame you for being scared, I would be too. I hope you arent denied and that you dont have to go through the legal process.....either way i would file a complaint against that doctor eventually when you have a chance.

Default Does anybody

Watch Anderson Cooper on CNN this is his kind of story,he keeps at the
jerks not just a one time thing..He does a show that's repeating more then
once then followed up over and over, They have that great Dr, from Grady
Memorial Hospital,in Ga. i think, here goes Dr. Sunjay Gooda.. He's got books out and is brilliant. But if we approch them it will have to be someone
who can fax write well have time and our help. AOL has a thing today on
PN and DPN. They have some good lawyers on this show..They would invite
there DRS. and lawyers they raely show. It might be worth a try. I use
to do radio and tv show's no more, and many years ago. With out offending anyone Glen i think you can get trough to them. There are so many good speakers in this group. But you would want the average person who is
getting screwed, there are many. This is 1 idea,it's also something Larry King would do same station ,same story just different people.
I got in Mayo through my brother,i don't know how he did it,he just got
me in. This is just a thought but think it over. There is a very kind hearted
Rabbi in SF that might help,I will talk to my Daughter-in-law she has done
Radio shows with him,and he's a Larry King regular.
I have the whole gang coming in,but will see very little of them. Glen,
please think this through,Joan,everyone...Kmeb your the one who
has to say yes and let's face it ...Look how many people this is affecting.
I'm in a lot of pain and i hope i'm making sence. Don't be afraid to let
people help you k,it's a lot more scary to be out alone,i hate to ask for
help, but in this group i have never met kinder people..Just don't take off
and scare us. PLEASE!! I have made a mess of this, somebody fix it.

Default Thanks

for good wishes - saw GP last night - he said other doc has called him again and railed against him (great TEAM I have there - never knew it until now) - anyway, he said if denial comes in to let him know asap and he'll go right to bat for me.... in the interim he suggested not to change neuro cause it will look real bad to ltd...

On Mayo - theres one I think about a day drive away - AZ - but they dont have the facilities of the other location - and I'd been advised to go to Minn by fellow pn patients, I dont understand why they would not put a person in-patient - as of course staying in hotel etc... is much more expensive and draining on patient - so logistics would be very challenging.... I had looked into AZ once - but even then was daunting cause of costs - but we'll see what happens here in the next few weeks... AZ told me they do work closely with MN so need to talk to them again and do more reserach on this....

Anyway, thanks for the info.. local media is an option (and the local news channels do pride themselves on exposing issues - but - the population in general at least in what I've seen - doesnt really seem to embrace stories about disabled - etc - until they are in a similar situation - much like just someone else who is sick doesnt deal with what you have until they too are afflicted with some disease - but again, if it becomes necessary - I will contact them - cant hurt)

So just have to wait right now... the attorney warned me to be on the outlook for a "letter" - the appeal period is restricted and they are known to not make a real effort to notify the insured in any dilignet way (like certified mail etc) so the individual has less appeal time... Also, they dont call and notify a person either... theres an automated system I can check so will do that....

Hanging (and Cathie - I would be terrified to be the person who is giving that cat a bath - think my cat would put up with that for about 3 seconds!)
