Hi all, sometimes i don't know whether or not i should post my good fortune, i feel a bit guilty sorta as i read some of your suffering which i can relate too as i have been there as well, but it just feels the right thing to do, i think, or i mean i hope someone's positive may give some one else a bit of hope when they are feeling down.
Anyway i have been on 200 mg x 2 Tramadol slow release since the start of this rotten disease, about 4 years and even though i felt pretty good a while back, i asked if i could try to stop taking the tramadol, but my doc was of the opinion " if its working good stay with them " so i did and seeing i needed pain relief for my hip, but 4 days ago i run right out of tramadol and i never got any replacements since, i don't feel any worse, no differant at all really, i think its had time to get out of my system, so i am pretty bloody happy about that ![]() all the best Brian ![]() |

Good for you Brian. I hope you continue to have relief without having to take the medication. Actually, that is pretty amazing. I will be interesting in hearing what your doctor has to say about that...

--and yes, probably more evidence that your nerves have healed at least to the point that they are on longer bombarding the brain with erroneous pain messages . . .
I would monitor this over the next few weeks to see if the pain levels are persistently no different than with the meds, but as one who believes in as few meds as possible, if this does persist, it can only be to your benefit. |

Brian,
I don't understand how the tramadol repaired the nerves. I looked it up on MedLine and it is used for pain. Thanks for your reply, Carolyn |

Good, Brian!
I am glad you pain levels no longer need the Tramadol. I've been on it for 7 yrs @ 100mg 4x day. When you ran out.....no symptoms of withdrawal? No problems at all? I've gotten W/D symptoms when I've missed doses before, but since I take it along with everything else at the same time, its difficult to tell which is the culprit.

Hi Carolyn, that's right it is used for pain relief only, it doesn't repair anything just makes your pain lesson. The cause of my PN was prediabetes and very low b12, a changed diet and exercise can reverse prediabetes, which i did and plenty of b12 helped as well.

Wait is there a med that repairs the nerve? I thought like neurontin etc just made your brain not respond to it but doesn't actually repair it. I wouldn't care as long as no pain but for some reason I don't respond to the meds like neurontin in the way I should.

You have been thru so much and as you learned, you have shared so much.
Sharing this news, well, of course it makes me and possibly others a bit jealous, but it does offer many of us that elusive creature called HOPE. You do know and appreciate that you followed your own instincts as you learned [and also probably got lucky with one doc at last] and did all you could - including keeping your patience in the long process [it's been how many years that you suffered?]. One thing tho - did your surgery and recovery there co-incide or affect your neuropathy improvements in any ways? Now, go party seriously for me, will you? ![]() |
