Default B12: 7 years on

I have been on B12 shots ( every 3months) and been taking 1 MG of MethylCobalamin a day for 7 years. Had a B12 blood test recently and I was only at a level of 636.

Been taking Source Naturals Brand of oral B12 for a number of years anyone opinions on the best brand?

Lightbulb I'd suggest you

make sure you are taking the B12 on an empty stomach well away time wise from food. (taking with food will
reduce or block absorption).

Shots every 3 mons is not a very effective regimen. B12 in shots is cleared from the blood in 72hrs.

It is possible if you are doing everything right, that you have some liver problem.
B12 is stored in the liver.

Hi Bojangles.

If you have been on Methyl B-12, in that amount, your levels should be MUCH HIGHER.

Before I started my b-12 methyl 5000, my b-12 level was 934 (or thereabouts). God only knows what it is now.

I'm not about to stop it. It helped me for 3 months until I got a stress flareup.

Got to de-stress the body. It's really the only way.

Feel better and live long and prosper, as they used to say in my favorite series of all time. Star Trek.

Personally, I like the sublingual B12 from Jarrow (1000mcgs).
I get it 6 bottles at a time from iherb.

I agree with the above. If I were you, I would take B12 absolutely alone and I would use 5000 mcg per day. And Jarrow is the one I have seen most confirmation of, but I'm sure there are other brands just as reliable.

And I would be very nice to my liver, as MrsD said. It could be another one of the many hoops B12 has to go through, but that would be my first thought too.

Thanks for the replies people.

I usually take my B12 separate from food.

My liver profile, a while back, was out of whack. Elevated ALT? (I think) plus previously something like gamma something or other. Anyway they did an ultrasound and the report said “fatty liver” Which I take to be enlarged, a bit of booze over the years perhaps.

In the UK they will only give a shot every 3 months, cuts the National Health bill I suppose.

Over the years still progressively going downhill, long story.

Thanks for the replies

Regards to all

If I remember correctly a fatty liver can also be autoimmune related. And of course B12 malabsorption often is.

Default Liver problems related to Celiac Disease

Hi to all, it has been so long since I posted over here. This was such a lifesaver for me back in 2003 when I first found my B12 deficiency with the help of Rose!

You are right about the autoimmune part and I am wondering if Mr. B might have some issues with gluten. Here are a couple of sites that talk about Celiac Disease (which is an autoimmune disease) and Liver problems.

http://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=98

http://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p...56107121078.3b

Quote:
Celiac.com 04/27/2006 - Liver abnormalities have been found in a high percentage of celiacs when first diagnosed, around 42% according to some studies. Gluten toxicity and increased intestinal permeability have both been suspected as a cause of liver abnormalities. Serious liver disorders, including cirrhosis, have been found in association with a number of celiac disease cases which appear to resolve upon treatment and maintaining a gluten-free diet.
This was found here: http://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p...50107225078.b2

I am not sure but I think somewhere a while back someone mentioned that Source natural B12 had gluten in it. If you are having an absorption problem, this may be the cause of your B12 not increasing.

Hope this helps.
