I'm new, and sorry I put all of my into info in the main forum.
I read some threads and there was reference to erthymelgia. I've had PN for years, and recently it turned into erthymelgia. I have a a lot of trouble wearing socks and shoes. I can't even wear diabetic socks. I tried them on and right away they started hurting. So, for years, I have worn thick men's socks with the seam turned out. Anyway, I was in physical therapy a few months ago and stopped going. (I stopped because I've been in PT for years, and this place just didn't seem to have their act together.) They actually started something called "desensitizion". It consisted of lotion mixed with sugar and massaging. I relaxed while they were doing it. It felt really weird, and I felt pain like in my ears instead of my foot. Afterward, I didn't feel any better, but I didn't feel any worse. However, they didn't provide any follow up. They did this for only one session, so I have no idea how many sessions it would take, or how long it would take to feel any results. They told me to do it at home, but gave me no instructions. I can do this at home. The question I have: During this process, what am I supposed to be doing mentally? Am I supposed to relax and feel the pain, or am I supposed to try to surpress it? Hi. I did in pt a similar thing for desenitization and it was called fluidtherapy. Your put your legs in this heated sand that blows on your legs at different temps and speeds. Your suppose to build up in temp and speed which shows your body can tolerate more. I guess at first its uncomfortable and for me it was but gradually it helps you tolerate more in general life. I also had the sock issue where I couldn't wear them. I tried all kinds. Now I'm able but I did go through extra pain getting used to them. Now I wear them most of the time cause I know if I don't my body will have to readjust to them.As for how your suppose to react mentally while doing the therapy and iI may be wrong but for myself I tried to go to a "happy" place and relax so my muscles would relax as much as they can. It is hard when the pain gets intense but I tried to practice my breathing and distract my mind. Good luck and sorry I don't have more info.
