Default Erythromelalgia and Neuropathy

Was researching something else and stumbled upon this article from a few years ago about a condition called erythromelalgia and neurologic abnormalities associated with it. Thought someone here might find it interesting:

http://archderm.ama-assn.org/cgi/con...ll/139/10/1337

So many mysterious sources of neuropathy, so little time. This appears to be a source of the small-fiber variety.

Default Eryhtromelalgia--

--is often considered to be a subcategory of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, due to the similar trophic changes that occur in the skin, and it does share a number of similarities to small-fiber neuropathies, though it tends to be elicited more by exercise than many other small-fiber syndromes.

There seems to be some form of hyperactive axonal reflex involved that doesn't seem to "shut off" properly.

There are at least a few genetic mutations that have been found in people with this, although the majority are still classified as idiopathic. Perhaps with the continued research into the human genome more genetic mutations will be found.

Lightbulb calcium channel blockers...

are capable of causing this too.
These are used for blood pressure control.

Verapamil (Calan)
Diltiazem (Cardizem)
nifedipine (Procardia)
Norvasc

The calcium channel blockers dilate blood vessels, and give that flush and burning feeling. I don't think they damage the nerves themselves.
