I need to find out if anything and I mean ANYTHING can get rid of the burning pain. It is starting to get unbearable and I don't know what to do. It is burning in my feet. Is there anything I can take?

Have you tried putting them in cold water for a while? There are also creams you can get such as bio freeze at the drug store. Some people report being helped by vicks. Long term you should try taking the B1 that may help.

What meds are you on? I am no expert but it may be a combo of the pn so if you can get on something to help with that it may help with the burning. For ex I get extremly tight calves like I can't propel though my issue is inner ankle/foot but the doc said it was part of the pn so what would help with the other may help with that. Not sure if it is true. Be careful with temps. I can't have anything cold on me or forget about it pain happens but Heyjoe must feel it works or could. That is the frustration is we are all different.It is trial and error which with pain is not good. I think you are going to a pain clinic?Do you see any connections to the more burning? Feel better

Michele, if i remember right your PN was caused by diabetes, if so the supplement Alpha Liopic Acid may help, it can lower your blood sugars so be careful of your sugars levels going to low if your taking diabetic meds like Metformin that do that as well.

I am with Joe about the water & B1 taking in divided doses during the day, or possibly even the stronger form of B1 [ Benfotiamine ] may help.

In the early days of my PN, the burning was getting to me during the day, that much that one day i phoned my neuro and asked for help, i was taking Endep at night [ Amitryptiline ] and he told me to take 25 mg of Endep in the morning which did help a lot, some people can't handle this med but i didn't have any big problems with it, may help to ask your doc to adjust your meds your currently taken.

Hey Joe all good idea's for a fast fix,and I still use some..If I could still get
in a tub with Dr. Johnsons's foo soap boy that helps itching feet,burning,
temp,or emson salt..Showers witch is what I can do burn my hands and feet.
My body strength is weak so no tub.I do soak then in big pan if I have
help.

On Monday if your a Diabectic please call that Dr. or your neuro..Please if your not check your blood surger,if overweigh please try and lose it.

I use "Icy Hot" cream (drug store generic if I can get it)
in the a.m. & after work and take 2,000-5,000mcg methyl cobalamin B12 sub-lingual (Jarrow - 1000mcg from iherb.com) as well as
Lyrica 600mgs/day (3 divided 200mg doses),
& Tramadol 400mgs/day (4 divided 100mg doses)

I was taking 2700mg of Nerontin & 600mg of Tegratol, but now my new neurologiist is weening me off these two drugs and putting me on Lyrica. I take 90mg of Cymbalta for the pain, but mostly for the depression and eventually I will be on 300mg of Lyrica. I kn ow the burning is because I am coming off of these 2 drugs, it just has to be.

It is so hard to do things when this pain hits me. I will look into bio freeze, I have never heard of that. Cold water does help me, but when the pain hits me at work, that is when I don't know what I am going to do. I can't take my pain medicine because that makes me want to go to sleep.

I think I am going to try the Benfotiamine. I know as soon as my Lyrica kicks in and starts working and the other drugs get out of my system then the burning should be cut down. I just know the reason I am getting the burning again is because I am cutting off om other drugs. Augh... this is the worst pain. Thanks for the suggestion Brian and everyone else. I really appreciate your thoughts, ideas and suggestions. You all brighten my day!!

As far as pain meds goes the one that works the best for me has been Tramadol. Ultram or Ultracet....same drug. It completely eliminates the burning sensation for me.

B-12 has dropped my pain level about 90% since I started taking it. Bio-Freeze seemed to work some but by far the Tramadol has made all the difference to me.

You'll have to try different things to see what works for *you*. Someone, some time back, mentioned taking regular Alka-Seltzer. The original kind with aspirin in it. It did seem to help and helps quickly as it's absorbed very quickly. If you take other meds be careful taking anything with aspirin in it on a regular basis. And of course if you're allergic don't use it!
