--these "unknown absences" make me nervous (and nobody needs me nervous).
![]() Sorry to hear you've been sleeping in the recliner, though. (I've been known to do that, but generally not on purpose . . .) Let us know what the results of the GTT/thyroid testing are. (Given the meds you've been on, don't be too surprised if they are a bit weird--hopefully your doctors will take this into account in their interpretations.) Good Morning Everyone!
Brian can you tell me about the Magnets? How do they help? Where do you buy them? I've been to an acupuncturist a few yrs back for my injured wrist and she did help....the only problem is my insurance doesn't cover acupuncture ![]() Sue, Good to hear from you too! I didn't get the flu Whew! I was worried! Mike and his grandfather had it. Guess all the meds I take saved me! I'm still not working. My bladder is still hurting from the surgery I had in Dec. My dr. thinks the hook for the bladder sling went into a nerve and that's the pain I'm having. He's hoping it goes away (it hasn't!) So I'm going back to see him next week and demand something else be done! (don't ya hate fighting with drs!!) I'd love a PN convention!! We all need that break! HI Glenn! I will let y'all know my test results. I think I get them the end of next week. I'll sure be glad when these tests are over with......more needle sticks....UGH!!!!! Take care!!

Your hummingbird signature is the best Roxie!
Hope and pray your situation gets better. I have C-5,6 severe degeneration and had numbness in my arm for months back in 2005 but it just kind of worked itself out with regular physical therapy and exercise. Now, I'm sure the disc haven't "regenerated" but - as the doc said to me, "your disc and spine need alignment and support just like the San Fransico Bay Bridge so think of it this way." I guess everything just realigned better and therefore the nerves are no longer impinged.

Boo about them 'getting' a nerve during that surgery...These danged teeny tiny things! They just get in the way of what all and everything, don't they?
Have you considered a new evaluation by a physical therapist for your back pain? I only ask because you have been thru so much recovery from so many things, and you just mite not be strong enough in muscles that usually do a good job of well 'keeping some things' together. The thing about PT is, at least it's non-invasive. I don't know about you, but these days I truly HATE invasive [even dental cleaning]. I am so glad that your port is working! In fact I'm beginning to be a bit jealous [hope you don't mind?]. Silly questioni about that port? Do you get your blood tests thru it? or not? I for one, truly understand about the 'recliner'. Seems I live in it at times. I've had this one for 4 years [got about 6 months after my onset] and I think I've worn it almost out....We should be furniture testors or something, no? Fighting w/docs tho? I'd been complaining about one med's side effects to one specialist [who really SHOULD know about them all] who discounted them until my last visit...suddenly doc said: " I've never seen you so 'upset' about this issue!" -man I felt like I'd been banging my head against a brick wall for almost 2 years! Getting docs to not only listen but HEAR what you are saying is truly a combination of luck, timing and saying just the right words at the perfect time. It really feels soo good when you STOP beating your head against that brick wall, isn't it? I tried a Tempurpedic in a showroom last month? And while I like the topper pad, lying down on that thing and feeling myself going DEEPER AND DEEPER, well after about 45 seconds I almost passed out w/vertigo? Felt like quicksand! Probably why I'm 'living' in the recliner? Truly hope the stress can be taken off that spine! Hope you get also a good nite's sleep any which way you can and HUGS! Like Sue and others, I was missing you! ![]() ![]() |

Roxie, as I understand it they help by increasing the blood flow to the affected area, with increased blood flow brings oxygen & other purities along with it, magnetic therapy is said to have soothing effect on the cells, tissues and nerves, when applied to an affected part and cause to lessen the pain, stiffness, soreness or swelling, its certainly not new therapy, magnetic therapy has been around for thousands of years, I have been using them for about 20 years with great success, even using them on acupuncture points have been successful but there is a lot of magnetic gimmicks out there, I personally wouldnt touch them with a forty foot pole, I have only used magnets directly onto the area of concern, they are not recommended for people who use pacemakers or any other similar devices or nor should you put them any were near your throat.. The magnet type I like to use are the Neodymium magnets or sometimes called rare earth magnets, as they are reasonably cheap and very strong, usually about $5 - $7 for one, about 5,000 gauge reading are good and very powerful, but be very careful when handling them, place them well apart, as opposite polls attract and they can slam together with an almighty force and hurt your fingers and are tricky to pull apart if your not use to them. I found it best to use a strong water proof adhesive tape to hold them on, so when you have a shower or sweat, they don't fall off you and also its important to get some moleskin and cut a small circular pieces, the same size as the magnet and place it on the skin first before the magnet to any prevent magnetic burn [ your skin can go a red color without the protection but only were the magnet has been placed.] I usually like to leave them on for a max of 4 days then take them off wash the area and put them back on a couple of hours later if need be, sometimes they can work within 4 hours but sometimes it may take over night or even a bit longer to really get the full benefit from them, with my problem I usually find a lot of relief over night. If you only use one magnet they are easy to handle, I always feel around for the place that is the most painful area, usually with my thumb by pressing in until I hit the spot and thats exactly were I put the magnet, doesnt matter what side of the magnet goes to the skin, I have found when only using only one magnetic, it doesnt seem to make any difference to me if the north or south pole goes towards the skin, some say it does, but I really dont think it matters.. Its a lot different if using more than one magnet though, if the area of concern is more than say 4 inches then using another will help more, but before placing them on yourself, its best to line them up first on a table, place one down & the other place down near the other one [ not to close ] hold them both and slowly move one near to the other, if they start to attract to each other STOP and turn one of them over to the other side, then they should push away from each other, thats great, that is the way you place them on your body, you don't want them to attract to each other, so please be careful The distance away from each other when they just start to push away from each other has to be the same distance apart when placing them on to your affected area, they seem to work better in my experience with them. More than likely one very strong magnet placed on the centre of the sore spot possibly might do the trick, if not then another one should be helpful. You should be able to buy them online, if you can find a website that sells them in your country i will check it out for you. I hope this helps Brian ![]() |
