Wink yes, there is a diet version

of tonic water. Both Schwepp's makes it and Canada Dry.
But I don't think restaurants would have it. Certainly if you were at a
party, it would be unlikely, unless you asked the host/hostess in advance.

It doesn't quite taste the same either.

Some of the Crystal Light products have maltodextrin in them. I cannot
tolerate that additive, so I don't use them.

I really like the Lipton's Diet Green tea and the raspberry flavor.
I do water in the summer too. And some iced regular tea. But I have to watch the caffeine.

Default neuropathy and increased pain from various

Hi. I am new to this forum. I do not drink any alcohol because I found it immediately makes the burning worse. I am reassured to know that this happens to others too. I was wondering if any of you experience increase in neuropathy from any other beverages (juice, pop) or other foods?
Thanks, Jefferson

Wink oh, yes...

I get increased burning from tomato sauces, and also if food has MSG in it.

I am investigating nightshade veggies...potatoes and bell peppers also affect me but less than tomato sauces.

Also calcium channel blockers can do it...and make your feet red.
(these are for blood pressure).

And alcohol not only makes my symptoms flare up,
It also demyleinates (sp?) nerves. Its not just the symptoms
but permanent damage to your nerves from alcohol in your blood.
A drink or two over the course of 4-6 hours makes my feet burn severely.
I will do it on occasion (New Year's, etc) but very sparingly- and I
know I will suffer the consequences for anywhere from an hour to 2 days later.
(Why? I like the taste of wines, the varieties and differences)

Do you mean your neuropathy gets worse when you consume tomatoe sauces, etc? Or, does that upset your stomach? I get definite increase in neuropathy from many foods I eat. I get it very quickly (within minutes). How about you?

Lightbulb just like I said:

I get increased burning (and last night my arms turned red and tingly) from Ragu. (not heartburn, not GI)

Sometimes it is worse than others. Last night was a bad one.

As far as drinks go... I just got back from the grocery.
There is a new sugar free drink by Pepsi-- called TAVA
4 12oz cans for 2.99-- black cherry/citrus. Has 4 vitamins in it too.
Vit A, niacin, B6, Vit E at 15% RDA
It is very refreshing... I love black cherry!

There are many foods with histamine or which release histamine. Some people are more sensitive than others.
You can Google histamine content in foods and various lists come up.

Thanks. I am new to the whole idea about histamiane and neuropathy. Mostly my doctors have felt there is no connection between eating and increased intensity of neuropathy...or should I say they say they can't figure out a connection. But, I can attest to it. Recently I did see a physician who mentioned the possibility of histime release. So, I will look up foods and histamine release.

Thanks for the tip on TAVA.

Mrs. D:

Just went to look up info on TAVA

http://www.tava.com/

They have some kind of slide show with some song playing. I clicked on FAQ's and looked up how they sweeten it.

It has aspartame.

Not for me.

It does sound delicious though. All those flavors and sparkling and black cherry.

Lightbulb Jefferson...

The largest most common cause of neuropathy from food, is gluten intolerance.

I'd check into our gluten forum here, read the stickies and go the the
sites listed.
I have some friends from years ago, who had gluten induced neuropathy.

Glenntaj here also has this and he can guide you as well.

Other foods may increase burning/tingling. There is a difference between occasional attacks (like I have), and constant issues which may be a result of gluten. Gluten intolerance may be acquired and may be inherited. Doctors do not typically understand this...so you are mostly on your own, and dependent on others who have encountered this.
