Hi - have a friend who was told by her doc - she has patches of numbness on her legs - I dont think PN - anyway, was told to get "decompression stockings?" - 10 to 20? Shes looking for them actually as "nylons" not individual socks and with or without toes.... I've clueless as thats all the info she could give me - but I know that some of you wear some sort of pressure stockings that help you? She is totally computer illiterate so appreciate any leads that I could maybe track down for her.

socks if they save you leg,well that's inportant. Your Dermitologist,can
write a script. can save you money. Deiabetes 1 or 2 very important,
Vauscular problems very important..What is her problem,I have payed
59 dollars every 4 months to 400 hundred dollars.. Find out the problem
and what she needs them for.

We should never guess on these althrough many do,and you can end up
being very ill. Go to one of Drs. above they must
be measured very carefully,
also when you get you scrip. go to a place where they will measure again.
most will give you someting to were so you can reture if the foot feels

fine and the other doesn't...I am a diabetic,I have cellulitis. vasular problems

could loose you toe your leg or legs and there more if you check the stickies.

I have a question about these compression socks.

I, myself, have never had to wear them. Alan had gone out and bought himself a pair (I have no idea why), and he wore them one day and they were so tight. When he took them off I told him, "why on earth did you buy these?" and he said "I really didn't know what I was buying, but these cost $20.00 and I figured they'd bring the blood into my feet, and maybe the pain between my toes would go away". None of his doctors ever told him to wear these stockings. He was in the drug store, saw them and said "why not?"

This was over one year ago by the way. I phoned the company, they sent me a mailer and returned our money.

I know there are various kinds of these stockings, with various kinds of compression up and down the leg, right? Aren't these terribly uncomfortable??

I have a big friend 6 feet 6 who is diabetic. He wears these (the whole leg version.) He once said "I hate these things, they are so uncomfortable".

He has recurring foot ulcers, various operations, (he recently had another one done). He wears the shoe boot on one foot or the other.

And he hates these stockings. I don't tell him what to do, because his doctor wrote a prescription for these.

My question is "If these are so tight as not to be comfortable, what on earth do they do, that a person has to wear them all day?"

I don't even wear panty-hose any more because it's not necessary. but I remember years ago, when I worked and I wore those control top panty hose, well, Brother, they were murder. I didn't even like regular pantyhose. I used to buy the Queen Sized, when I went to work. They weren't too bad.

I can only imagine if I had to wear compression stockings. How does a person wear these things every day????

I have a friend who is tall and large but not fat. Lymphedema is the problem. They are up the whole leg. If they are fit right, they should not be a problem. A pain to have to wear them but not a problem. I myself have had to wear some now and then, that were kind of cut out at the toe but went up to just below the knee. They were not uncomfortable and they did help They do need to be the right fit for the problem and the size for the person's leg. There are many kinds out there as we know for different problems. It has to be the right fit for the problem.

I just got my first over-the-calf support socks from Thorlo. The nylon type are ok, but I have lost some of the natural foot pad cushioning off the bottoms of my feet, and Thorlo makes socks with varying degrees of padding. I got the uniform socks, because they go to the knee and do not cause swelling above where a regular crew sock reaches.
