I was on Gabapentin but could not get past 1500mg a day as it was drying out my throat something God awful. I am on 600mg lyricia and found that once it hit 300mg I was gettings some positive results that would last a few days. then 400mg. less pain for a week and the pain would come back, 500mg less pain for week, then pain would come back, and then 600mg less pain for a week and pain would come back. Notice a pattern. My Doctor said while you can build up a tolerance to the drug it shouldnt happend that quickly. My burning pain is up and down so much I can't find a pattern but it seems like the lyrica isnt doing much for it. I should try getting off Lyrica but I am afraid my pain will be worse if I do. |

Hi just read this and thought I would chime in, my Doc changed me from gabapentin 18mg a day on best days to lyrica 300mg morn and night. However after one month on it old problems I had with the feeling in my legs and feet have come back and left me really unsteady when walking. However on the other hand it gave me a sense of well being and I am now going out and meeting with people. I spoke to my dr and he said I should not take gabapentin with lyrica as they are both the same. I beg to differ on gabepentin my pain level was down a lot and I could manage, but my sense of well being was nil, this reversed when I was started on lyrica. Now I am taking both, about 300 mg of the gaba and the 150mg of lyrica, I take the gaba one hour before bedtime and I intend to take it about 2 hours after the lyrica in the morning, I hope I will get the best out of both of them, fingers crossed. I honestly cannot see why they would not work together, they are from the same family and there is definately a difference in the way they work and I am not willing to take my doctors advice as he then told me he had no idea how to help me! so I will see how I go. God bless angel x

As PN started to build up, my PCP put me on Lyrica. I worked up to 200 mg, 3x with an extra one about 2 hours before bedtime. After a while, the pain build up again was getting excruciating. He added gabapentin. So along with the Lyrica, I'm on gaba 600 mg., 3 x. I also take Vicodin before bedtime and for "breakthrough" pain, mostly on weekends. This is what works for me. Hope this helps. |

They all make me deathly sick. I'm bad with pills or they're bad with me! Pain in arms and legs. Ride my recumbent bike every day. Do Yoga stretches that's I'm still able to do. Have to use a walker so I go outside and take a "walker" walk when the weather is okay. Lots of Vitamin B and Alpha Lipoic Acid. It's a real bummer! Siddhi |

Oh boy.. As some might have read in another thread, I have to wait 2 months for my Lyrica. I called my Doc. last week and asked her to think about letting me take the Gabapentin. They finally called today and she said yes to it. Now after reading this, is it even a good idea? Should I just wait it out, or deal with the 'big switch' when the time comes? My pain level every day is a 9-10, along with that lovely swelling and burning feeling in my feet/legs. My pain isn't only lower body though, it stems from my neck all the way down to my toes. As of right now, I have another month to go till I get my Lyrica. Someone at the pharmacy messed up and told me a month, when it's actually 2 months. My situation.....I prepay the pharmacy for 3 months worth, and the drug company is giving it to me. I have no insurance and this is how they deal with people on low income/no insurance if you're approved. I guess i am also going to have to talk to someone from the pharma. co. as well when they call me. This is all so new to me. =/ |
