Default Doctors and the forums!

I just wanted to mention an email I received. We often talk about who are good doctors and who aren't--what we like and what we do not, where to go, where not to go. I am very impressed with a doctor who does actually read in the forums. I had mentioned in here that I had very much wanted to see Dr. Gudesblatt here on Long Island, and could not get an appt with him for 3-4 months, and was given an appt with another doctor, who I am not very happy with. Dr. Gudesblatt actually reads in this forum and saw my post, and was very disappointed to hear how upset I was. He emailed Doc John, left his email addy with him so he could get in touch with me, letting me decide if I still wanted to see him. I emailed him, explaining about my celiac disease, B12 problems, and neuropathy, he emailed me back within 15 minutes, and I was given a consultation appt within 6 weeks. I will be seeing him on June 16th. Dr. Gudesblatt comes very highly recommended and it truly impresses me that he reads in these forums. I had actually found another doctor I was going to call for an appt, so I am very happy he emailed me when he did--thank you Dr. Gudesblatt!

Interesting. I never thought of docs who read this forum. I wish they would tell us that they were and spread to other docs to do the same. Maybe it could help them make more connections and also treat us in a better way. I often feel my dog gets better care then many of us.
I am glad you found a doc who can help you and seems to go the extra steps for the care of his patients. I told a doc I met in the airport that a good doc is like a gift from god.

Default I am kind of wowed by this?

and, at the same time afraid...Why? Because
ON the PROS: 1- docs can and SHOULD learn from us, the patients about how we are 'used or mis-used'; 2- it is probably humbling to those who are lurking?...a heightened awareness of how we perceive our doctors and treat us [or, more likely NOT] could make for better, more sensitive docs! 3- those few of us who find such docs are truly beneficiaries of their out-reach.
ON the CONS: 1-some docs might NOT like what is 'said' about them? and could take retalitory actions - I HAVE SEEN this happen! Recourse really isn't there for us either thru state medical boards or the AMA to complain about 'quirky' docs.
2- Docs might take our criticisms and just lump us into a whiney-meemie category - by which many who do not try to learn all the diagnostic ins-outs and tend to lump us anyhow. Lazy Lazy Lazy! With no excuses in my experiences. They do not and will not change ever. They see no personal motivation other than potential malpractice lawsuits [I HAVE explored this aspect and it is HARD if not impossible to prove!] to change and even then they would settle and continue the status quo of neglect.

Deb, I am truly truly glad for you! I do hope that this doesn't turn out to be a basket full of wishes to find out 'naught can be done' kind of thing!!
What is the magic day? I'll be sitting here w/my fingers crossed and my legs [can't do eyes or toes...sorry?]! So keep us up to date.

PS I'm glad you had such a great trip. Numb butt and all! - j

Lightbulb well...

I think if a doctor is a disappointment (this is a carefully worded understatement) one would be wise to NOT post his name here.
If someone wants it, use the PM function.

If a doctor is GREAT then yes, use the name here.
That should protect the forum here and YOU.

I am reminded of a post I just read elsewhere where a mother accompanied
her 26 yr old daughter to a procedure for pain, and the doctor there accused
the Mom of being a Munchausen by Proxy! The daughter asked her mom for support... after all. Talk about being abusive and cruel!

Well, personally, I do not remember the thread--I am sure someone asked for names of doctors or it was a general thread of doctors in your area that you like. It may have been the thread about the good things and the bad things about doctors--I just truly do not remember!

As my signature states, I get so tired of doctors who do not listen to the patient, the doctors who can not hear, nor care what the patient is saying, who do not listen to what actually is hurting and where. The last time I saw my neuro, he made this statement to me, "You seem more worried about your feet than your shoulders!" Excuse me, but that should be a clue to him! Which, in no uncertain terms, I did explain to him, and I might add, it seemed to fall on deaf ears. So, I was looking for a new neuro anyways. This email came at the perfect time!

Before finding out about Celiac Disease, I went years and years (over 20), from doctor to doctor, being told it might be this or that, my favorite being, "It's all in your head!" I no longer settle for the wrong answers or a lazy doctor--if I feel the doctor is at least trying to work with me, then I am happy, but, they must show effort!

My appt is June 16th, we will see what happens.

This doctor SHOULD NOT be practicing medicine.

That poor young girl, AND THAT POOR MOTHER!! All she was doing was offering emotional support and she gets accused of Munchausen by Proxy!!!

My goodness, I've seen enough movies to know what a mother who really has that disorder, can do. To accuse this loving mother of that, well, I have never heard of such a mean thing.

That's what this doctor was...mean and extremely unprofessional.

And I think it's great that Darlindeb's doctor contacted her via email. Just imagine!!! A doctor who emails. I have met scarce few but it's nice to know that their numbers are growing.

I hope she is very happy with this new guy.
