I am not sure if I am on the right site but recognize some of the names here. A long time ago I used to post about my dad on the brain talk community, but it doesnt appear this site is running anymore, not sure if this was has replaced it. Anyways my dad is 70 , and was diagnosed with PN about 5 years ago, he has good and bad days. Recently he had a heart attack and had to stop taking amatriplyn, but seems to not have got to much worse. Before the heart attack the specialist did some blood tests and they showed something was not right and he was told this may or may not be connected to the pn. He has a appointment with the specialist next month and really believes they will be able to do something, I am worried he may be having false hopes, has anyone else had this with blood results?
My dad takes B12 but still gets a lot of stiffness and finds it hard to sleep. All this aside he still leads a active life and is visiting my sister in Australia for 3 months in November when he was first diagnosed he did not think he would ever get out there. He also is a brilliant Grandfather and still manages to kick a football with my son Tracey |

Hi Tracey,
It's a holiday weekend so things will be slow. Sorry about your Dad's heart attack and hope he is doing better. As for the tests, it's possible sometimes to find out the cause of PN and if the cause is treatable, the PN will improve. Although, you have to remember that nerves grow very very very slowly. I sure hope he gets some good news. You tell him I remember him. Billye

Hi Tracy, i can remember your post saying about your father wasn't the best with PN but wanted to come over here to see his daughter, glad he will be able to make it in November, what part of OZ is he coming to ?
I also hope the results of the test are hopeful as well, nice to hear from you again, doesn't time go so quickly. best wishes Brian ![]() |

Hi.
How lucky you are to have such a nice dear father. Sounds like he's a terrific grandfather. That's the best news. It's good he's able to travel. Anything that gets you to move, gets the blood circulating. Here's hoping he can resolve the heart issues, and continue to be the grandfather he is. I wish him the best. Melody

If he can travel and still kick a football ...with PN - he's doing well.
Whether or not the bloodwork will say anything or have good news about treatment, is a 'maybe'. We all have to learn to live with our limitations having this disease. The object is to live as normal a life as possible. It looks like he's on the right track.

Thanks for the replies I guess we will just have to wait and see, I am just nervous because my dad really thinks they will do something and so far the specialists havent been much help, and I am worried he will get depressed if they are just wasting his time, but who knows!! my dad is going to Adelaide, the funny thing is he is thinking of moving over there for good and wants me and my family to go too, so we would all be together, its hard having a sister so far away, she really worries about my dad too, we are looking into the possibility of this. Also the two times my dad has been out to Australia his legs have improved I think the heat is good for him I know this is not the case for everyone.
